Another Flat-Earther Meltdown

One of the greatest things about living in the United States is the ability to believe whatever you want. Moreover you can have discussions about those topics and have a think tank to compare notes and validate some nagging doubts you might have. There are several flat earth groups in the area; two have been created within the past year and one has been around for about ten years. Only the latter has an actual face to face meeting of members every three weeks. If you want to attend you will be given an email address to submit your information. You will be told which date the meeting will be happening but you will have to wait for the location and address to be sent via a text message. If you ever decide to attend, please show them the same respect that they show you. Since it's hard for me to plan things on a spur of the moment whim, I've been using the cyber meeting option that some of the groups offer. This past week, a long time member of the flat earther movement was pushing the subject of how old the earth really is. I brought up carbon dating, fossils, skeletons and bones found deep in the earth. I can't say that the planet is a certain age or how it came to be but I love hearing the different theories that people have. Some people can be extremely pushy about their ideology and if you don't believe what they do then you are a complete moron. This person, who goes by the name “Slick Steve”, claims that the protective barrier (dome) around the earth prevents anyone from leaving the planet. So, yeah, trying to send people to other planets to set up colonies could never happen because the dome can't be breached. Yes, not only are we on a flat earth but there's a dome over it so any type of space launch would need 'clearance' but even then, trying to go through the dome is ill advised. They often refer to the Shuttle Challenger accident and cite it as fact that there is a dome. That's where things get strange; depending on what faction of flat earth you subscribe to – the dome could be few miles up or (the popular consensus ) exactly 17 miles up. Regardless of personal views and opinions, everyone is entitled to their own. When I saw “Slick Steve” having a meltdown about his curriculum for homeschooling his kids get denied I had to laugh. The reply from the school district said that it deviated too far from their recommended plan and the only way he could 'teach' his children about the flat earth theory would be to have the same amount of time given to other ideologies. There is a fine line between providing a child with a well-rounded education and brainwashing. Whe you take the issue as far as 'Steve” did it makes you look like a radical or one of the “aluminum foil hat wearing” folk.

@NJChicaa Actually, I am building a yurt in the back yard It has some really awesome RFID blocking material on the inside so I can cut down on my exposure to electronics I sleep so much better when I am in a part of the house with nothing plugged in to outlets or cel phone chargers etc. The yurt will have power but it will be solar from panels on the roof of the house. The code to get in the underground shelter, 666 of course.

I wonder if the moon is inside the dome? Do the flat earthers (A wonderful term. I've seen it here for the first time) believe that American astronauts walked on the moon?

Most flat-earthers do not believe that there was a mission to the moon. They say that the earth is an enclosed terrarium of sorts where nothing gets in or out. The whole reasoning behind the moon and Mars exploration is to suck up money through NASA. It can really make your head start spinning because one conspiracy theory leads to another.
