Nope, No Blood Clot

I finally made it to the ER and there was no blood clot. Which is a huge relief. I have venous insufficiency in both legs so sometimes I get swelling and pain anyway, but since this came on all of a sudden and it felt weird when I walked, I thought it best to get it checked. Part of me knew there wouldn't be anything wrong, but I wanted to play it safe anyway. So, after spending over 4 hours in the ER (a half hour which consisted of waiting to be seen at the front desk, another hour and a half waiting for an ultrasound and blood work, and then more than another hour waiting just to be discharged,) I am finally home. I'm wearing my compression stockings to see if that helps with my symptoms and also drinking lots of water. Most likely my muscles are just cramping up from not being used as much as usual, and maybe also from the heat. I'm glad I got checked and now have peace of mind that nothing's wrong, so I can stretch my legs out and massage them without worrying that I'll knock some blood clot loose. I'll probably get a nasty letter in the mail from my insurance company reprimanding me for going to the ER for a "non-emergency," but oh well. They can just shove it. If there's a possibility it may be an emergency situation, it's always better to play it safe rather than be sorry later.

It was an emergency, because if you had blood clot they had to do something immediately. I think that it's always better to check when in doubt.

I agree. My insurance company doesn't think anything is an emergency, though. They refused to pay for my hospital stay last year because they claimed it wasn't medically necessary... The hospital doesn't admit you if they don't think it's medically necessary! They just don't want to pay for anything.

Glad it's not a blood clot, it's odd that you would get a letter in the mail we never do even though I've taken Brayland in for a belly ache because he was actually begging to go and he hates the ER so it freaked me out and he only had gas. The little brat made me look like a crazy person lol. It is always the same doctor each time I take him in and this man thinks I'm nuts. Part of it is anxiety though. I freak out over everything, which I know you relate to. Stupid anxiety.

@Srbageldog Yeah, that's just a jerk move because there are things that seem minor that may not be, I've heard countless stories of people not going because they didn't think it was a big deal and it was, I'd rather be safe than sorry. I definitely wouldn't let some letter discourage me. I know, right? Ugh. The cute doctor is almost always the one on duty when I go in. He gets tired of seeing us lol.

I never used to get letters in the mail until my insurance got overtaken by a new network. They are the ones who send rude letters admonishing people for going to the ER...when I looked them up on Yelp other people commented on that too, even though their ER trip HAD been due to an emergency. So it sounds like they send the letter regardless, because they're trying to discourage people from going to the ER so they won't have to pay for it. But our insurance covers all ER expenses, so they can suck on a rotten egg. There's this really attractive doctor at our ER who thinks I'm nuts, too. I cringe every time I see him. Why is it always the hot doctors who think we're nuts? XD

I agree. I've gone many times over the last year to get checked to make sure there was no blood clot (I have venous insufficiency and get swelling and bad leg pain at times, but I didn't always know that's what it was) so the ER sometimes act like "why are you back here again for this?" Now I only go if I've just had surgery and the pain becomes constant. I don't think it's anything to mess around with, considering a blood clot can be fatal.

Thank you. I figured I'd be stuck at the ER a while, I just thought it was ridiculous it took so long just to get discharged!
