What are the benefits of a simple life? Some common responses might be: "I have less to worry about", "I have more time", "I am happier", or "I have less clutter in my life". Do you think that less is best? Have you done anything lately to simplify your life? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * On April 27, 2015 I sold my car and since then I have been walking more and taking public transportation. I have learned to get everything done without the use of a car. I used to get frustrated by the constant city traffic. Now, I have my I-Pad with me and as I travel I do a lot of reading which I couldn't do when driving.

@LadyDuck Yes, sometimes we have to de-clutter our lives of toxic people to improve our health and sanity. May you have peace!

Moving into an apartment complex where all the maintenance is done for you, is making my life simpler. I'm sure it is simpler without a car.

If one still has a measure of health and lives in a city with good public transportation than one can save some nice money as cars are very expensive these days. In the 1970ies I could buy a duplex for less than a price of a small car these days. Can you think of any Scripture that shows us that God wants us to live simple lives?

@just4him Yes, Matthew 6 has many thoughts on how to keep our lives simple. The example of the birds not having any store-houses or sowing seeds but they find food every day. Birds focus on just a few things and so we are encouraged to make the kingdom of God our main focus.

@1hopefulman About the only one that comes to mind off the top of my head would be Matthew 6 - Take no thought about tomorrow parable.

Thank you! I always had a car since my early twenties so it was not an easy decision to make. What do you think of the idea of simplifying one's life?

Good for you! Just don't read while you are walking. We live far from everything, so a car is necessary for us. My life is simple enough not to make any changes.

No, I won't read while walking, only when I'm sitting on the bus or subway or sitting in a park. If I read while walking I may end up in the hospital and that would complicate my life. Yes, not everyone can give up their car. I wasn't using it much as I wanted to do more walking so it was not hard at all and I am still able to get around quite easily.

In some ways figuring out how to get everything done without a car would be less simple I think! I am glad it is working for you. I keep trying to get rid of stuff, so the house is simplified at least.

To be honest, I would hate to have to depend on public transportation - I hate being late for appointments etc. Walking is good though. I think just enough is best.

I have books and belong to online groups about simplicity. My goal is to make simplicity a big part of my life. Right now, there are many things I can do to make it happen. Unfortunately, my work physically drains me, and makes me very sleepy. However, I am slowly reaching my goal of simplistic living by: 1. Getting rid of toxic people in my life. Never in my life have I met so many Christian people who are malicious to the point that it is how they live their lives on a regular basis. I even hear Christians take God's name in vain. 2. I am thinking of setting up a bartering group. 3. I am trying to sell things I don't need. 3. I am working on getting organized so I have more time to do the things I want to do.
