On-Line Shopping

I realize that on-line shopping is a time-saver for many. You can literally buy everything and anything on line and usually with no shipping costs but have you considered the many companies that are closing their local shops causing employees to be out of jobs?
Imagine if you worked for: Radio Shack, Macy's, Kohl's, Walmart, Sears and many others. Hundreds of local stores are closing due to on-line shopping. That's a lot of people out of work. Not to mention filing for unemployment or welfare and food stamps. That also places on burden on government spending.
I realize that it is a 'convenience' to shop on line, but just remember, when all the local shops are no longer around; how soon will it be before 'your' job is no longer important either. Just saying.

@nanette64 Oh I get my butt out of my chair quite frequently - I was just out in the pool for two hours and got a lot of exercise.

Yup. And I forgot to mention ordering everything on line doesn't get people to get their butts out of a chair which causes more obesity @TiarasOceanView .

Online shopping can also create jobs: web developers, IT technicians, packers, shippers, drivers, and additional agents for payment processing. Also, virtual customer service and on the phone customer care are needed. While it is true that online shopping pushed brick and mortar stores to get rid of its employees, it also opened up new employment opportunities for others. It is a double-edged sword which could be beneficial and at the same detrimental to some.

We try to get as much as we can from the locals and usually pay more for certain things because of this. That is okay with us b/c we want them to be there forever!

@nanette64 We buy pet supplies, farm goods and more from locals at a higher price, but love them and want them to earn enough to stay with us!

@PatZAnthony I agree and there's not a business in town that doesn't know who I am and call me by my first name.

Especially where I live @PatZAnthony ; pop. 3,000. We lose the shops here, you've got to travel a minimum of 27 miles to get to another larger town.

We live in the boonies and the only way to shop w/o driving hours and spending money on gas and getting PO'd in traffic and not finding what I want - is to shop on line and I will shop online until I can no longer type.
Working retail was never on my to be list.

I prefer the interaction too @DianneN . Almost all the store employees know me by name and say Hi when I walk through the door.

I find it the stores are raising their prices or no good deals in general so people rather get a good deal online and usually there is free shipping and you save time, hassle!
Living where I'm at there's traffic just doing down the main road. No one wants to go to the mall , in traffic, hunt for parking and spend money when you can find The items cheaper elsewhere.
People go to the mall nowadays for dessert, eating and movies. I see less shoppers
