Lost twenty bucks but got a free bagel

It happened many years ago... I was at work and wanted to go get a bagel with cream cheese for lunch. I did not want to take my wallet with me, so I took out a twenty, put it in my pocket and went to the cafe.
I got myself my favorite bagel with cream cheese and waited in line to pay for my items. When my turn came I went into my pocket to take out the money to pay and noticed that the twenty was not there. I checked all the other pockets with no results. I was majorly disappointed. Not only was I not going to get my bagel and cream cheese but I also somehow managed to lose $20.
I don't remember what I told the cashier, but as I was about to leave the register without my bagel, the guy behind me offered to pay for it. I was shocked. Never in a million years did I think anyone would offer to pay... And I would never ask. I actually felt a bit uneasy about accepting his offer. But in the end I did. Goes to show that there are some nice people out there.
After I got my bagel I went around the cafe before leaving and even retraced my steps from the cafe to the office but did not find my twenty. Thought maybe it fell in my cubicle somewhere but it wasn't there either. I was twenty dollars short but at least I got my bagel with cream cheese. So in a way I won.

I guess a bad day can have a happy ending. It was bugging me all day that day that I had lost the twenty and could not figure out where it could have happened. But even if I was able to figure out where I lost it, the money wouldn't have been there because if someone found it they would have instantly picked it up.

@lovebuglena You are right if it was found someone would have picked it up for sure.

That was really nice of him to pay for your bagel =)
Sorry you lost money though, that's never a good feeling.

Yes. Neither is the feeling of finding a buck but not wanting to pick it up because of all the people around you, regretting it as soon as you walk away, and then returning to the spot where you found the buck, but of course finding that it's no longer there.
