Is it hard for you to say "NO" to a child?

This is my dilemma at the end of Sunday ... I had to tell my 5 year old cousin that today I could not fulfill the promise of taking him to the park. He now keeps saying that I don't keep my promises and that he does not like me anymore. It's kinda funny
(but it was bad to have to say no
)!
Is that hard for you too?

I learned long ago to never make a promise to a child except to love them. Promises have to be broken sometimes and that makes it hard for a child to trust you. When they ask you to promise, say you'll promise to do your best to try. "I promise I will try to take you to the park, I promise that I'll buy you that toy if I can", etc. then make sure they know it's only a promise to try your best.
5 year olds are like that. Do you remember when you were 5? It's perfectly logical to them!

Yes it is hard , if i promised I would have to do something so they would be happy.

If I make a promise, I have to keep it. Unless there's an emergency reason why I can't.
We spoil kids with love, care, fun, items, but I do say no often. Depends on what I'm saying it for though

Well, they have to learn we don't always get what we want, but it IS hard, because they don't understand, and everything means SO much to them at that age.

I have no problem telling anyone No. It isn't going to kill the child to hear the world and they have to eventually learn that life isn't fair and they can't always get their way. So yu can't take him to the park this time but it's not like you'll never be able to take him again.

honestly kids are very sensitive over promises. You need to take time to explain why you cannot make it but they won`t take no as an answer though

Depends on what it is, but you got to keep your promises, they will call you on it every time.
Remember a famous line from my Dad when I wanted him to play catch with me or take me somewhere. His response...We'll see. At least it wasn't no and it bought him some time, ha
