Putting the wraps on yet another music series. #1 in my Favorite Number songs countdown (with the number in the title spelled out) is "Twenty Four Hours" by the legendary Joy Division. Listening to the lyrics from "Twenty Four Hours," in retrospect, it's easy to see why vocalist Ian Curtis hung himself ("gotta find some therapy, this treatment takes too long," among other gems.) While I credit Bauhaus, there is a school of thought that Joy Division created goth, and there is a case to be made here. "Twenty Four Hours" rocks, albeit in a very dark and gloomy manner that was way ahead of it's time. R.I.P. Ian. Thank you for the music, even though your death spawned New Order. If you look at Ian in the pictures in that video you can pick him out if you don't know Joy Division from Joy to the World. He looked sad. Maybe one day the world will stop treat depression as a joke.... Fabulous bass line in this song!! Great series, and great idea!

Peter Hook is definitely one of my favorite bassists. The only time depression is funny is when it's Marvin from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

You do like New Order? I never thought of Joy Division as creating goth. I never thought of them as goth. Gloom and doom lyrics were not uncommon to punk and new wave and certainly later grunge.

No,Joy Division were totally gloom and doom, but I credit Bauhaus for inventing goth.
