Time to get rid of some of my old stuff

One of my goals this year was to get more organized in my home. I did get a headstart a couple of months ago, but lately I've been slacking off. There's just so much to do, it feels overwhelming. But I'm determined to get the job done. One thing that I think will help with organization is getting rid of old stuff that I don't need. I know there's a bunch of clothes, jewelry, and books that I don't need anymore so I've decided I'm either going to try to sell them or just donate them to charity. It's better to give the items to someone who can use them instead of them sitting around collecting dust. Do you donate/sell your old items?

@JohnRoberts Clothes are the number 1 items I get rid of. Most of them came from my aunt or cousin and since I'm not going to wear them I give them away.

I used to give my good clothes to consignment shops, but now they go to my daughter in law and son's fiancée. If they don't want them, then I give them to the shop. Otherwise, everything else goes to a charity store or the trash.

Best way to "get rid of stuff" is to sell your house and move. My mom just sold her house to downsize to an apartment. From April through June - we probably put out over 60 large trash bags of accumulated junk! (She has lived there for 46 years).

@dramagirl26 Yes. Although in fairness, a good portion of it was my dad's doing. He had stuff up in the attic (only accessible through a trap door in the top of the garage) and that was at least 15 or 20 bags of trash! She also made about $500 one weekend at a garage sale from some of the 'junk'!

Even I was thinking the same. I normally donate old stuff. Selling used things are not common here

@amandajay I usually donate clothes to Goodwill, but with books I try to sell them.

I do it every year before Deepavavali festival ( October - November) it makes me feel so much better when I get rid of all the accumulated junk ..I have a regular man who.comes every year to help me clear out ,pays me a little and sells it to make some profit for himself..

Yes our old material goes to a second hand store in the Lake Charles area to CARC Treasure Chest or to Goodwill.

@Deepizzaguy It's great that you donate to Goodwill. They do a lot of great work to help others.

That is the main type of charity I would and do support - giving clothes whenever I can to the needy. I prefer doing that instead of giving money to an organization and I am not sure if the right persons benefit.

@Kandae11 Sometimes it's better to donate items than money because you never know how much of your money is going to the charity.
