Favorite "Talk" Songs #10 - "Talkin' Baseball"

Well what do you know? Time for yet another musical countdown, this time songs with "talk" (or a variation) in the title. And I figured, why not have a little fun to start things off? #10 in my Favorite "Talk" Songs series is "Talkin' Baseball (Willie, Mickey, & The Duke,)" by Terry Cashman. And why not? Baseball fans are well aware of Cashman's 1981 hit, a celebration of the game's history. Cashman name drops legendary baseball players, starting from the 1950's up until 1981, ending each verse by referencing Willie Mays, Mickey Mantle, and Duke Snider, all of whom played in New York for, respectively, the Giants, Yankees, and the Brooklyn Dodgers. "Talkin' Baseball" proved so popular with fans that Cashman began recording team-specific versions. The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum honored Cashman in 2011, and the singer was inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame that same year. Simpsons fans will remember the "Talkin' Softball" version from that show's "Homer at the Bat" episode. Like I said, why not kick this series off with a bit of fun? Enjoy! Cashman made one of my countdowns as a member of the Buchanan Brothers (their sole hit, "Medicine Man"). Cashman also co-produced Jim Croce's albums, so he had a steady career despite this one song. This would probably still be the #1 baseball song if it weren't for "Centerfield," which I read is the song you hear playing when you walk into the Baseball Hall of Fame.

@teamfreak16 -- I have friends who say they won't go as long as there's no Pete Rose to see there.

"Centerfield," huh? I did not know that. I could see it, though. I've never been to Cooperstown, probably never will make it.

I remember this! There was always a debate who was the best centerfielder in New York during that time.

Having never seen any of them play, I'm going with Willie.

@teamfreak16 Yes, I'm in agreement there. Anybody who could hit that many home runs over 600 and bat .300 plus field like he could is the best in my opinion.

You caused me some pain by showing Mays without SF on his hat.

That's right, he did play in San Francisco. I always think of him as New York only for some reason.

Aren't football songs kind of aggressive for the most part?

@teamfreak16 I think those are more chants; around world cup time there seems to be a song and many years ago, most of the teams were knocking out songs some even getting into the charts, bought by loyal fans doubtless
