Spoiler alerts My recent house-minding and cat minding assignment gave me three weeks of access to Netflix so I binge-watched several shows, including this tremendous Marvel universe based superhero series. Jessica Jones has quit being a superhero known as Jewel as the series starts, preferring to be a human private detective. This was due to becoming a pawn to a man called Kilgrave, (played brilliantly by former Dr Who, David Tennant) with mind-control powers who has enslaved her, raped her repeatedly and used her as a brainwashed assassin for eight months. Jones thought Kilgrave was dead due to events shown in flashbacks, but he has returned so she has to find a way to stop him before he can kill or control her and all her friends. She is assisted by her step-sister and fellow hero, the indestructible Luke Cage (soon to get his own TV series too). The show touches on real world issues including mind-control, drug abuse, rape and abortions, without failing to be a tense, sometimes very funny well-acted and tightly scripted hero drama, and Tennant is fabulous whenever he is on screen. @Hannihar I think it had a great honesty to it, a vulnerable hero who was shaken and violated by her experiences, and Tennant was great as the main villain

This sounds really good. I love the ones where women over come obstacles like this.
