I love summer in Minnesota. During the winter we are stuck inside -- but in summer so many things happen. Little car shows, outdoor free concerts, movies in the park, and county fairs. Also most towns host a city event. And in the small town where I live that event is called "Fun Days", a little event that lasts 3 days.
There were amusement rides, games for kids, food stands, on all of the days. Sometimes there was DJ music and one night, a live band. The local library hosts it's used book sale during that time and, like usual , I found a huge amount of books.
Also the town's city wide garage sales happen during this time, I went to a lot of them! I actually didn't find too much - and this is alight too. (Do you like garage sales, or rummage sales as they're sometimes called?)
I ate dinner a couple of days at the food vendors -- I enjoyed my "taco in a bag" and "Bbq chicken and rice".
Also I got to play bingo at 10cents a card I even won once -- I whole dollar and change. :-)
This year I got to see the big parade (seriously it takes , like 3 hours) and seeing all the floats and marching bands. Do you like parades? What is your favorite part of a parade? Or do you avoid them?
Also I bought a badge -- they are numbered and if you have the right number you can win prizes. Mine didn't win... that's alright!
They also hosted a medallion hunt, the "finder" winning $100. Imagine my chagrin to discover that the medallion was hidden under a mailbox within a stone's throw of my apartment.
In all a very fun event.
Does your town host such things? Do you like these events?

We do a lot of neat stuff here in Manitou, but nothing like that. Colorado Springs does do a few similar things during the summer, though.

@FayeHazel - When I had a car I did. I'll ride my bike to Territory Days every couple of years to watch this American Indian band that plays, but they moved the other festivals away from Downtown.

Your "fun days" sound like a carnival, just with a little extra to it. So sounds fun. No i dont do garage sales. But do love parades. The music the cars the energy.

@FayeHazel The umbrella serves a dual purpose in the UK.Keeps the sun and rain off. Usually within a few seconds of each other.

I live in the LA area so we don't have the kind of small town fairs and events you enjoy.

There are county fairs all over, and the state fair happens in August. I remember seeing the episode of Bizarre Foods from the Minnesota State Fair, showing what a huge spectacle it is. Hope you get to enjoy that.

@FayeHazel -- sadly, our state fair isn't a great state fair (contrary to what that song said), so going once every five years or so, or when there's a really good music act (a couple of years ago I went to see the Oak Ridge Boys [they're there every year] because they had just been inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and they also had a "country gold" concert that was superb).

I love county fairs. I haven't been to our state fair in awhile - but we are quite known for any kind of food on a stick :-) Do you usually go to your fair?

Glad that you are enjoying yourself this fun day. Nope there is no such fun stuff even in National Day
Just parades, the boring army marching, no floats. How to enjoy?

Oh - it sounds like your celebration is much more somber. Are there anything like festivals, or fairs?
