We Were in a Car Accident Last Night and Now I Have Whiplash

Because things can't be bad enough in my life right now, now I have whiplash. My boyfriend and I were coming home from the grocery store and were stopped at the stoplight getting ready to turn out of the parking lot when one of those big pickup trucks slammed right into us. My head snapped back hard and the back of my head, neck, and shoulders started hurting. My boyfriend didn't think to ask me if I was okay, he just jumped out of the car to check the damage. He just bought this car a few weeks ago and has already had rotten luck with it. The day before yesterday we discovered someone stole the registration tags right off his license plate, and then last night we got rear-ended.
Fortunately the car is okay. My boyfriend is fine too. But I, of course, had to get whiplash from the ordeal. A trip to the ER earlier confirmed it. They gave me a muscle relaxer and some pain meds and a prescription to last me 10 days. I am shaken and upset and in pain. I am glad it wasn't worse but I hope I don't have long term pain issues because of this. And I was just finally starting to feel normal again after having hernia repair surgery last month! Now I have a neck injury. Life really can change in the blink of an eye. One minute I was sitting there, happily chatting with my boyfriend about the wild chickens that roam around our town, and then in the blink of an eye I have whiplash. It could have been worse. I'm grateful it wasn't but it definitely puts in perspective how suddenly things can change.

@LadyDuck Thank you. I'm hoping the pain will just heal on its own and not cause long-term pain.

I am sorry about your niece. It seems like almost everyone I know gets in an accident right after they buy a new car! If the pain doesn't go away by my next doctor appointment (next Tuesday) I will let her know and ask to be referred somewhere. And of course if it becomes worse I will go back to the hospital.

@Srbageldog I think you need to be cautious for neck motion. Be safe, my friend.

@Shavkat I am trying to avoid any sudden movements or moving it too hard too fast. Thank you for the concern.

No, they just told me to take the pain meds and muscle relaxer and get lots of rest.

Makes you appreciate life a little more when you realize this. It's a scary realization.

So sorry to hear that you had to go through that ordeal. Having whiplash sucks. I had it once when I was in college from an accident in which I was rear-ended also. Luckily, I didn't seem to have any lasting complications once I healed. I hope you heal quickly too.
You are so right about how things can change in an instant. Sometimes we take our lives for granted, not realizing that everything can change in the snap of a finger.
Anyway, get some rest and hurry up and get better!

Thank you. Yes, it does suck! For the most part I feel okay when I am up and moving around. When I am sitting or laying down, man I'm sore. I am hoping I will start feeling better soon, but I do have an appointment to see my doctor next week so if I am still having pain I will bring it up with her then.

@Srbageldog Good luck with your doctor visit, and I hope you feel better soon (or hopefully the doctor can help you start to feel better).

I don't know what was wrong with him. Maybe he was texting or something and not paying attention to the road.

Well! I was reading this yesterday when the storm began here. What I wanted to say is go to a person injury attorney and have him file a lawsuit. IF you have lasting pain you will be covered by their insurance company for the medical expenses.
But know it will take 2 years for you to get paid any amount coming, why I do not know but this happens.

Thank you. It could have been a lot worse so I'm glad that it's not. I am still pretty sore but hopefully I'll start feeling better in a few days (assuming I don't have long-term issues from the injury.)
