Diary Saturday 8th July 2017 A very quiet weekend. I think staying in bed all day and not getting up might have involved more activity. I shopped, I did some washing up, and a little writing. Diary Sunday 9th July 2017 Nearly as inactive as Saturday but I caught up with some reading and did quite a lot of TV watching, in a rare escape from the endless coverage of Wimbledon in which I don’t care who is playing who. Diary Monday 10th July 2017 I got a little voluntary work today at the university campus and attended a course preparation workshop for students covering a module on the financial support available to carers, (people having to look after sick or disabled relatives and neighbours). Many carers receive little aide for their devotion to the needy even though their endless devotion and running round after demanding patients / clients can often stress them out and ruin their own health too. After the module preparation session, I bought a new bread-knife as I have been trying to slice bread with an ordinary blunt butter knife until now. It was satisfying to be able to do it properly again. Arthur Chappell

I can just imagine you trying to slice a loaf with a butter knife.

@Asylum it can be done - just leaves the bread rather ragged and lots of crumbs

@arthurchappell It would be easier using a saw.

Sounds like a good few days. Glad you have a new bread knife. I just got a new one too.

Couldn't you have bought sliced bread whilst you had no knife?!

@PoppyliciousI usually do but the community centre often gives away free unsliced breads

A bread knife is always nice to have. We got one a couple years ago.

Care givers need all the help they can get. They lead hard lives.

@RubyHawk it does put them in a very demanding often under-appreciated and unrewarded role

A good knife is important.
