Patience is a virtue when you sell stuff like vintage stereo gear. I've been refinishing stuff for other people, but haven't sold any of my stuff for months. Then in the past week, I sold both the KLH console I restored with my child laborer and a mysterious single speaker that I'd had here for over a year.
I only made $105 total, but I also met a fellow musician last night who also has some YouTube music videos out there. We talked music for awhile and both said we'd check out each other's stuff. Do you or your friends sell stuff on Etsy or other sites? I just advertise on Craigslist. No more eBay for me. Do you experience "hot" and "cold" periods too?

I used to belong to a guitar forum, the same group of us went from forum to forum for nearly 20 years. One would shut down and someone would start another one. Now we're all on Facebook, scattered but still in touch. Most are gearheads (we had a less polite term for it) and they would sell back and forth, acquire new stuff, etc. You would see a post singing the praises of a particular pedal or amp then three weeks later the honeymoon was over and they'd sell it.
No real point to this, you just brought back a lot of funny, sweet memories of my friends.
Have you ever tried Offer Up? My son has sold tons of stuff through that site. He sold a wooden pendant shaped like a bear for $10--he found it on the sidewalk so it was a great profit!

LOL! I'll start keeping my head down and looking for stuff on the sidewalk! I'd never heard of Offer Up. I've spent some time on guitar and stereo forums, but I'm not so much into the guitar related hardware. I WILL say that the Fishman amp I use for gigs absolutely ROCKS.

@CoralLevang If it's "app only" the is it really geared toward kids?

I've been on eBay for 9 years. In that time I have bought once and never sold.

Congratulation! It's a nice experience selling items only, independently where to publish them. Years ago, I used eBay for selling, now I only use it occasionally to buy some items. Now I use a site which is like a second-hand online shop where everyone can sell, offer, buy....

@TheHorse Well, it's a national site (a Spanish one) I use at the moment. It's called "milanuncios". It's more for local sales. You put in the stuff you want to sell and if someone is interested in one of your items, the person may phone or email you. There is no shipping involved. No fees to pay or any commissions. There you can find almost everything: toys, clothes, books, technological items, services, classes.... you decide for how much you want to sell your items and the person who buys pays directly to you the entire price. Sometimes, someone tries to deal a bit.

@thislittlepennyearns The funny thing for me is: I'd restore wood stuff even if I never made a penny doing it. It's meditation for me. But being able to charge for it makes it all the more fun.

I've never sold on eBay, just purchased; however, from what I've heard, they priced themselves out of business, so to speak. Amazon (again, going from what others have said) has free listing and lower commission. I've also heard that Etsy has been overrun with professionals because eBay is so expensive.
I haven't been on eBay in ages. I don't know if I even remember my password.
Congrats on the sale!!

Both my daughters each have an Etsy shop but I only sell stuff occasionally on Ebay (mostly books). I'm sure using Craigslist is quicker for anyone looking to buy what you have for sale. Congrats on your big cash bonanza!

Mylot didn’t make you $105 but selling your speakers and other stuff did.

Yep, I know that feeling. I have had a dry period as well. I can't seem to get around any job offers much, because I certainly disliked them. So I sold my stuffs on eBay (I don't wanna cause you any inconvenience by mentioning it, though). That's what I did. I have another options too. I sold on quikr.
