Central Park is located in Manhattan, New York City. It is an urban park and was established in 1857. It was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1962.
A couple things that I found particularly interesting is that the first section of the park was opened in the winter of 1858, BEFORE the Civil War began in 1861, but construction continued all through the Civil War and the park was expanded from its original 778 acres to its current size of 843 acres.
This urban park is the most visited in the USA, by millions of people every year and its one of the most filmed locations on Earth.
Another very interesting piece of information concerns the starling, a bird from Europe that was introduced into Central Park in 1891.
This bird, by 1940, had spread as far south as Florida and even into Canada and as far west as California. Evidently, they displace other birds, competing more successfully for nest-holes.
I always thought that the starling was an American bird, until I read this information about Central Park.

@IreneVincent Sounds like a lot of fun! Sorry to hear you did not get to visit Central Park!
I am sure you will get the chance to go back! Speaking of NYC, I am found out I am going there with my mother at the end of July, so I am looking forward to that.. Maybe I will go to Central Park after all, who knows!

I was able to go to the top of the Empire State Building and visit Coney Island and go to a show at Radio City Music Hall and ride the subways, but I did not visit Central Park. Maybe some day I will go back.

Starlings must be a very strong species to be able to survive in so many different environments.

That is unusual, I would have to say. Did you go on a week day or week end day?

I would like to see Central Park but haven't yet, even though I have been to New York City. It was several years ago.

I'm not surprised. You have been to a lot of different places. I have too, compared to many others that I know, but there are still MANY places that I have NOT been yet.
