Pure Stupidity

It's one thing to be injured in an incident with an airplane because you have no control over that but it's quite another thing if you are the IDIOT. Yesterday on the island of Saint Martin a woman was killed. The beach is literally at the edge of the runway where planes take off and there are signs that tell people to stay away from the fence area because of the engine blast when the plane takes off. Well apparently people are IDIOTS because whenever a plane is ready to take off, people decide to go grab onto the fence to experience the roughly 130mph wind created by the engine. A lot of people have been hurt. The airport of course sent their condolences to the family of the woman. Well, I'm sorry but "Stupid Is As Stupid Does."
The incident occurred Maho Beach, which is famous for its proximity to the Princess Juliana International Airport.

I have found that people do not read signs and love to live dangerously. That is sad, but, she should have stayed away from the fence.

@Hannihar You are right, there are plenty of signs that tell people to stay away.

@LadyDuck Anna, there are those that crave danger so will not pay attention to the signs. Here outside of my building we have only one parking spot and says to park closer to the wall, but, people do not read signs here either. So, asking them to or putting notes on have to be done. It is very sad that they do not respect signs or people.

I have been three times to Saint Martin, there are big signs warning people not to stay there, but those idiots are there all the time watching the big birds leave. There are plenty of small accidents every year.

Yes, I saw this news from TV. In fact there are many tourists go to there to experience it on purpose. I can't understand it. Perhaps they are bold and want to take a risk. And they are already adults.

I have been to the island twice, and for some reason do not remember seeing people grabbing on to the fence, not sure if it is more of a new thing or I just was oblivious to not seeing it, believe I went in 2009 and 2011. Anyways, yeah that's sketchy though, jeez!

It could be that the idiocy didn't start until after 2011 @mawdest .

I agree with you and I'm embarrassed to say, I think she was a New Zealander. If not, some of her family live here.

Well let's hope that what happened to her doesn't happen to any other family members @valmnz .

It is sad how people behave never considering the consequences of their actions!

"It won't happen to me" seems to be the common thought @PatZAnthony .

Not a smart thing to do at all. I feel bad for her family and friends that lost her.

I saw it twice so far on the news....stupid isn't the word for it. But it doesn't take some this serious to be stupid. I see and hear the stupid things people say and to all the time....no common sense.

Risking your life for a thrill like that is something I would never do. Maybe they need to fence it off with electric fencing, a safer thrill.

I think I have heard of people doing this before, how strange anyone would want to feel that.

A pity! Some mistakes are like that, one found out too late.
