Poe A Comic?

I was watching a documentary about Edgar Allen Poe this morning. It said that the myths about him being a druggy and such aren't true. He was actually well known as a comedic writer. He is supposed to have started the detective genre. He also wrote some sci-fi stuff. He only wore the mustache, that seems to be his signature look, for the last four years of his life.
