Have you ever heard of a Catalpa Tree?

The Catalpa tree behind our Taco Bell

I never have, but I have seen what turns out to be one on several occasions. I just never knew what they were. So, I asked my Facebook family if they knew. And, they did! The one in the picture is growing along a creek that runs behind our local Taco Bell. There was a fairly long line, so we were stopped waiting as each car ahead ordered. I rolled the window down and took the picture. I just think the tree is so cool looking (as in something I like the looks of). I love the huge leaves and pods. But, are the pods good for anything? Does anyone know? Do you have any around where you live? They remind me of trees in the tropics. It's just a pretty tree - unique and eye-catching.

Yup, I have heard of the tree, my old apartment complex is in a street named after the tree. Some of those streets in my old hometown are named after various species of trees.

I'm familiar with red maple, silver maple, white birch, oak, weeping willow and other more common deciduous trees, but this one I don't remember ever seeing until I moved here to the county north of where I grew up.

Apparently, the name they're called in South Jersey is funnier. My one friend said they're called Johnny Smokers!!! LOL I think I prefer Catalpa. I'm from SJ and NEVER heard either name before!!

Nor had I. It was good to learn because I obviously could see the tree.

You're very welcome. Another of my FB friends said she'd been wondering as well but didn't know. Now she knows, too.
