Favorite Electronic Songs #1 - "Pearl's Girl"

It's time to turn off the synthesizers and pull the plug on my celebration of electronic music. We are at #1 in my Favorite Electronic Songs series: "Pearl's Girl" by British electronica group Underworld.
Named after a racing greyhound (their song's "Sappy's Curry" and "Born Slippy" are also titled after racing dogs,) "Pearl's Girl" is a single from Underworld's 1996 album, Second Toughest in the Infants.
Everything an electronica song should be (a commenter on the You Tube link points out just how cutting edge this was within the genre,) "Pearl's Girl" reached #22 on the UK Singles chart, and appears on the soundtrack for the 1997 movie, The Saint. ESPN also used the song's beginning in their tennis promo's back in the day.
Featuring vocalist Karl Hyde's stream of consciousness-style lyrics, which he wrote after a night in Hamburg, Germany, "Pearl's Girl" has been remixed to death. We're going with the album version here, as it's the version on my iPod, which, when it comes up on shuffle, I listen to it about 20 times before moving on.
It still sounds fresh after 21 years. Yeah, it's that good.

Pretty cool , build this up well and not sure that is dance music or just chill music. Seems like a hard song to dance to, but cool none the less, pretty different than what you hear now. Good DJ mix also.

That's DJ Darren Emerson, who helped turn them into a great electronica act. Prior, they were your basic 80's alternative group. He's no longer with them.

Good series!!
Question: I noticed that a lot of these were LONG (this one is over nine minutes). Was that a "club play requirement" (clubs liked the longer songs for the same reason FM radio DJs did in the 70s)?

I honestly don't know. It makes sense. Could be that these guys just like to stretch it out, too.

I haven't seen The Saint since it came out. Wikipedia says it was used during a car chase.

Thank you. The entire album is good, but this is the best song from it.
