I had to take a day off in this celebration of loud guitars, but here we are at #2 in my Favorite 80's Metal Songs series. And we have a band making their first appearance in one of my music countdowns: Judas Priest, with "The Hellion/Electric Eye."
Yes, technically, "The Hellion" and Electric Eye" are two separate songs, but you just can't listen to "Electric Eye" without it's instrumental lead in. You just can't.
"Electric Eye" is from the band's 1982 double platinum album, Screaming for Vengeance. The third single from that album, "Electric Eye" did not perform as well as their hit, "You've Got Another Thing Coming," but it did manage to reach #38 on Billboard's US Mainstream Rock chart.
Along with "The Hellion," "Electric Eye" is usually what Judas Priest opens their concerts with. It is a smoking hot metal tune, featuring Rob Halford's laser sharp vocals, as well as the usual stellar guitar interplay of K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton.
This is not hair metal, rather, Judas Priest were part of The British Invasion of Heavy Metal, which also gave us bands such as Iron Maiden and Saxon. This rocks in that way, and is pretty much harder than what any of the hair bands were doing.
Enjoy the link, which does include "The Hellion."

Are there even any metal bands in the Hall of Fame? They should be in, as far as I'm concerned.

@teamfreak16 The closest would be Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Led Zep, Metallica. The HOF has a rep for despising alternative/new wave and wouldn't surprise if they didn't like heavy. Other than Bob Marley, reggae is ignored. Too busy inducting those rock giants like Bonnie Raitt, Joni Mitchell, Grandmaster Flash and Madonna.

@teamfreak16 -- I'm watching the Behind the Music on them. Rob did have long hair at one time. All a distant memory....
