Living in the Dog House

This is really how I feel right now. In February my female Bichon gave birth to 3 puppies. I wasn’t allowed to get rid of them. However, the female puppy was already promised to my best friend. We already had 3 dogs before she gave birth to the 3 puppies. One of the dogs lives outside and the two other small Bichon’s live in the house. However, after giving birth I now have 4 of them living in my house and one outside.
My boyfriend decided that he couldn’t give up one of Cheyanne’s babies to anyone. He had to keep them all. One month after giving birth to the babies she had complications and I had to have her uterus removed.
Now here comes the best part of all this. A week ago my boyfriend was after me to go and pick up the female white Bichon puppy that my girlfriend was holding for me. I tried my best to get out of this one but he kept after me.
Now I am really living in a dog’s house. We now have 5 little Bichon dogs running around our home. Each night at least 4 of them have to come and take over my bed. I think I am going mad at dinner time. I had to put up a wood divider in my kitchen to feed all these dogs. The 3 small babies eat in half of the kitchen and the two adults eat in the other half. Then we have to feed the big dog in the yard.
I have no clue at all what I am doing with all these dogs. I only wanted one small dog for me after my dog died 4 years ago. I was fine with Dakota and was happy to have only 2 dogs. Then my girlfriend gave me Cheyanne and this was fine. However, we have now 3 more to add to the mix.
I never imagined myself being a dog breeder. This just wasn’t in the stars for me. Now I am running around in the morning and arranging the small dogs and making sure the big one won’t escape my yard before I leave home. What a nightmare this one is. I am hoping when the puppies grow up some it will be easier. I still have 2 years to wait until the new female can have puppies. But in the mean time I am taking the male dogs to the vet and having them all fixed. So now it will be on my terms when and if this new little female will ever have puppies or now.

At night he is. But in the morning he is out of the house by 5 AM. So now he is attaching 2 of them outside in the morning. That just leaves the 3 puppies in the house. Lucky for me I have them all house broken so I don't need to wake up to a mess.

We have one elderly American .eskimo...she is slowly dying. If she was my dog I would probably have her euthanized, but it is my husbands dog, therefore his decision. Right now I find she smells awful. When she breathes her last all of our furniture will need to be thoroughly cleaned by a professional. Much though I love this dog, her odour is becoming difficult for me to deal with.

That is why I had my first dog put to sleep. She had tumors and could no longer see, walk or eat. I could not stand watching her die like this. It is not fair to the animal and I felt it was better to let her sleep and be in peace. Then my nephew felt so bad for me he gave me my male bichon. I named him Dakota. I was happy with the two dogs and never wanted any more. Well things just don't work out the way you want them to.

@nanette64 he has.....but has been avoiding making the decision.
Now the decision has been made....next step is an appointment. I informed hubby that I would take the dog if he was unable. Hopefully this doesn't take more than a week.

You are not telling me some thing I don't already know. I never in my life thought I would have any dogs at all because of my work and travels. Now here I am today with 6 dogs to take care of. I must need my head examined to have this many dogs in my house and life at one time.

I remember you telling me of trouble keeping one in the yard a long time ago. I couldn't do it.

#1: does the boyfriend bother to take care of the dogs at all? #2: Why does the 'new' female HAVE to have puppies? #3: It is not mandatory that a female dog have puppies. This is adding to the problem, not solving them @poehere .

Answers - #1 yes he is there taking care of them. #2 people here breed the Bichon puppies because they bring in a good price. I had planned on breeding my first female and selling some of her puppies. But then she got sick and I had to have her operated on. This was the end of breeding her. #3 Yes, I know it is not mandatory for a female dog to have puppies. I had another female dog I refused to breed. She had a hip problem and I had her fixed before she was a year old. We had always planned on having 2 or maybe 3 litters of puppies with my female. The price here for the dogs is excellent plus there were a lot of requests for her puppies. After she got sick, my boyfriend didn't want to part with her puppies so he kept them. Normally I would of sold the babies because I had a lot of people who wanted them. We had always wanted to breed the Bichon for our retirement. Both of us are getting tired working so hard each day and are about ready to retire. So we were planning on breeding the dogs and running our organic garden. Well, now things have changed a bit but we will still follow through with our plans. It will just take a bit longer to achieve.

@poehere I think breeding continually is a bad thing. How would you like to become pregnant every 9 months? Just because they are a special breed doesn't mean that should be their 'purpose'. Multiple litters can be just as physically demanding on a dog as it is a human. Do you think the dog likes to be pregnant constantly? Just saying.

@nanette64 I had never planned on breeding her continually. I had plans on having 1 litter every two to three years. I had always planned on fixing her when she turned 5. I just wanted her to have puppies at the age of 2 and again at the age of 4. I don't want to be a major dog breeder like some people here on the islands. Furthermore, I only have 1 child and can understand how you feel. I wouldn't want one baby after another and I am not inhuman to do this to my dog either. That is one reason I fixed my other female dog. I don't like the look of a female dog after having too many litters of puppies.. After, her first litter her went back to normal and is a beautiful dogl. I would never allow her to have another litter so soon. I think two litters in 4 years is not that much and after this it is time for the dog to stop. I am not like my brother in law who allows his dog to have litter after litter and make money from his dog. I just wanted to breed her for a few of my friends that wanted her puppies. That was always my plan.

While you are doing all this what is your boyfriend doing to help? Isn't he the one that could not part with the puppies?

He leaves at 5 in the morning for work. Before he leaves, he attaches the Dakota and Cheyanne outside. He has also fixed the yard so Nita can't escape. At night when he gets home, he cleans the yard and helps make the food for the dogs. He is good with them and does a lot to take care of them. Now he has built a few small houses for them and some of them are sleeping in them at night. This makes it a lot nicer.

Yes dogs can be expensive. They needs shots, to be fed, and to be well taken care of. You are always worrying about them and this is a problem.
