The Scorpions once did a song about the end of a rock concert, "When the Smoke is Going Down." Well, the smoke is going down on my Favorite 80's Metal Songs series (and I did it without using a single power ballad!) We have reached #1: "Still of the Night" by Whitesnake.
"Still of the Night" is a loud, muscular rocker, the first single from Whitesnake's 1987 (8 × platinum) self titled album. Written by vocalist David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes, the song stalled at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100. But! The video, featuring Tawny Kitaen, was MTV's most requested video the week it was released.
Coverdale is one of those guys blessed with an air raid siren for a voice, and he lets it fly here. The song was performed by a who's who lineup: in addition to Coverdale and Sykes, we had bassist Neil Murray, keyboardist Don Airey, and drummer Aynsley Dunbar. That's a pretty formidable lineup, and they rocked the hell out of this.

Yup, they were married for a while. One of those videos is infamous for an, um, "wardrobe malfunction" that was NOT caught or censored.
