We had an interesting day yesterday. We left our campsite and Vince was determined to go up a 16% incline just to see where it went. Well, it went into the village and we got to a point where we were between a big rock and a very low roof. A lady told us the road ahead was blocked because of the celebrations being held that day.
In the end we had to back down a road in order to turn around and go back the way we came. All went well for several hours and we climbed through some magnificent country to get to the top of Col d’Entremont (a mountain pass [1220 metres] in the Massif Central located in Auvergne, France between the towns of Dienne and Murat in the Cantal region)..Then we went over Col de Serre (1,335 metres) and Col de Neronne.
Somewhere in the middle we came across a village celebrating their special day. The mayor made a speech and laid a wreath at a memorial, three smartly dressed gentlemen (well, mostly smartly dressed) played a tune or two on hunting horns and a young lady entertained us on her accordion. The hunting horns have no valves to produce the different notes so to play a tune requires minute adjustments of the lips and tongue.
Next post I’ll tell you about the gridlock on the mountainside.

They go to a lot of trouble really but have a lot of fun doing it. I can see such things really binding a community together.
