Former Major League Baseball umpire Ken Kaiser who worked as a professional wrestler before he worked as an umpire from 1977-1999 passed away in Rochester New York at age 72. Kaiser had been battling diabetes before he passed away on Wednesday. Kaiser lost his job as an umpire in the Major Leagues after he resigned as a tactic during a strike between the umpires union and the management of Major League Baseball in 1999. Kaiser went into the profession of being an umpire at the suggestion of former boxer Ed O' Hara who told Kaiser while he was working in the family business of repairing televisions in Rochester New York since Kaiser was a huge baseball fan. Umpires may take a lot of abuse from fans, baseball players and managers but a few of them are legendary figures like Ken Kaiser who now is in a much better place.

Yes, I remember him well. Some of those umps were like household names like Doug Harvey, Jerry Crawford and Paul Runge.
