Sensationalizing the headlines...

It's too bad the media seems to do this stuff quite often, but it is what it is. I've seen many times where stories have 'misrepresented' the facts to draw more readers to it. Now, the jackass, for want of a better term, that plowed his car into a crowd killing one person (and injuring several others) in Virginia was terrible. As were all the violent clashes that appeared to break out (and these were NOT all due to the White Supremacists/Neo-Nazis/KKK groups...some of these clashes were started by people that showed up to oppose the white nationalist rally). But some media sites are lumping the deaths of two State Police officers killed in a helicopter crash...which really had no relation to the clashes...in with it to sensationalize the story and make it 'bigger', so that it appears THREE people were killed in the clashes. What ever happened to news being reported 'straight' instead of trying to muddle the facts?

For years I've been complaining how media are sensationalizing things. They remind me of my late Uncle who always exaggerate all his stories.

I just had to correct one of my nephews wives on facebook, she thought the car had killed three people too because she didn't read the full story, just the headlines she had seen.

Brings to mind the old saying "Don't believe anything you hear and only half of what you see"

Yeah I saw that right away..it is really sickening how they do it JJ. They take the deaths and sensationalize it all to suit their sick rhetoric. I actually wonder what happened to that helicopter. I haven“t read anything about that yet.

@TiarasOceanView I believe they meant the helicopter was behaving erratically

I saw where one person stated they saw the pilot having trouble operating it and pieces allegedly falling from it before it went down.

If we see it on television it comes with terrible background score as well I prefer the internet to see the news, only selected websites

@vsai2008 It's becoming increasingly harder to find stories that simply report facts without the story being 'slanted' by opinions of the reporter/site.

This country is basically run by the media. Politicians do this or that because it is media friendly....well except for Trump. Everyone in the public eye works with and through the media. Media can't be trusted because they want the story not the facts, facts are uninteresting.

You are exactly right. I absolutely don't agree with ANY group that preaches hate against anyone else. But the media can present things in a very one sided, inflammatory manner. Just because I don't agree with the views of a group doesn't bar its right to free speech and fair reporting.

Growing up, I was taught journalism should be fair and unbiased. Those days are long gone, it seems.

I *miss* the straight news, too! The era of the 11pm news that REPORTED (not editorialized!) the facts and happenings of the day appears to be over. Sad.
