Favorite Power Ballads #3 - "November Rain"

"They look like they've been sleeping in a doorway," said David Geffen's secretary about Guns N' Roses on the morning the band, #3 in my Favorite Power Ballads series, was to sign with Geffen Records. According to SPIN Magazine, Geffen's response? "They probably were." The third spot is Gun's and Roses' monster power ballad, "November Rain."
How successful was "November Rain?" At nine minutes long, it is the longest Top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #3, and has sold over one million copies. While it features a couple of great solo's from lead guitarist, Slash, the song is notable for a beautiful string arrangement, orchestrated by vocalist Axl Rose. The late Shannon Hoon (Blind Melon) notably performed background vocals.
I've linked to the official video, which had a budget of over one million dollars, and featured Rose's then-girlfriend, Victoria's Secret model Stephanie Seymour. It won the award for Best Cinematography at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Occasionally, those of us that do music countdowns, get suggestion's in the comments. Our lists are already finalized, but there is a reason "November Rain" was brought up yesterday as a possibility. It's that good.

I know I'm in a small minority and I don't like to be negative but I hate his voice. Slash is a very good guitarist though, that's a positive! I like one of their songs Sweet Child of Mine. I believe that was a #1 hit for them.

Slash was the reason the band was so good, in my opinion.

Beautifully over the top video - the guitars in the desert with no visible amps or source of power and why does the guy throw himself into the wedding cake when they are running in out of the rain. He doesn't fall - he clearly launches himself

I get so tired of hearing "Welcome to the Jungle," the "theme song" per se of the hapless Cincinnati Bungles, er, Bengals. As an "outsider" (not fond of power ballads), I have to say this would be the "poster song" for power ballads.
