Are more female teachers having sex with boys? Or does it just make for more catchy news?

Over the past several years, I've seen more and more stories in the news about female teachers doing sexual things with young boys. Sometimes they boys are as young as Jr. High.
Are there really more women doing sexual things with young boys than in the past? Or is it just more newsworthy than male teachers doing sexual things with young girls? Man bites dog, and all that.
Pennsylvania school officials said Friday that a high school teacher has been charged with eight felonies including institutional sexual assault that included a student.

Definitely more newsworthy being more "sexy" to attract viewers. Male teachers are dismissed as pervs while female teachers caught in such acts trigger wishful thinking among men and women love to dis other women.

@TheHorse High school boys would have wishful thinking over a pretty teacher.

@JohnRoberts Hmm. I still thought of them as parental transference units.

Look at all the songs about boys being seduced by their teachers (I have two on my school song countdown). Hardly new, probably just a slow news day.

@TheHorse -- I wasn't thinking so much of that one (which is female student in love with male teacher) as something like Elton John's "Teacher I Need You," which is the male student in love with the female teacher.
Record: MCA-2100 ... Recorded 1972 ... Entered Billboard Top LP's Chart February 10, 1973 ... This was recorded from my record collection.

I don't really know what it is, however it may be a case of who gets caught. The abuse is probably more widespread than we know about and that scares me. People that work with children need to have a higher criteria to live up to than others. Teachers, bus drivers, priests, coaches all should be monitored.

Actually, we had one here in our local town. In which my friend replied, where were teachers like this when we went to school? He said it not me. Definitely a bit of a double standard in regards to how it is perceived between men and women

Its always been around for both. Its just coming out more now than in the past. I don`t know why but its always happened. When I was in school back in the late 70`s we had a lesbian P.E. teacher that was known to have encounters with the high school girls. Or the Assistant Principle keeping the door closed and "certain" girls in there longer than any others.

@andriaperry I was in school in the sixties. Certain male teachers had a reputation. I did not hear too much about the women teachers, except the one who did not get her contract renewed because she taught us about real things, like human anatomy, rh factor babies and other important things that our parents were not ready for us to learn. Of course I was totally oblivious to most things.

@Asylum That's probably for the best. When I was in school in the '70s, post-hippy "casualness" was the norm, so many teachers "hung out" with their students on the quad after school. I'm sure that's a part of where the rumors started.

I think the media makes sure each and every case gets the maximum press. Then social media takes over and it just seems to balloon. I think I'll go bury my head in the sand again. I tried to be a parent to my children.

It's obviously a serious issue, but I still wonder where these teachers were when I was in school. Bad joke?

In our own little town one of our female teachers slept with a 14 year old boy. She was 30 and she got pregnant. His father was our sheriff. The mother of the boy didn't want to press charges and now 10 years later it seems to be forgotten. She never lost her job and eventually they got married. I can't believe that she still teaches at our school. She is a kindergarten teacher
