My daughter is camping for the first time

Today my daughter who is 13 is off at her friends house. It is a birthday party and the girls are camping outside overnight. This is her first time ever camping so I hope it goes well. I loved camping with my friends as a teen. The father who is a former police officer (now a detective) will be staying outside with the girls to make sure they are not scared and are safe. I am so nervous but I trust the parents completely. My sons cyber school books arrived yesterday. The books are in the photo I attached and the rest of his supplies fill a dresser drawer. My daughters first day back to public school is August 28th where she is entering 8th grade. My sons first day back to cyber school is September 5 where he is entering 4th grade.

I remember taking my kids camping for the first time. It was a school-sanctioned camping trip in a large field behind the kid's elementary school. I volunteered as a chaperone for the campout. It was one of the funnest camping trips I've been on! We had such a great time with everybody else on the camping trip, even though it was freezing cold at night!

That sounds like it made a wonderful memory. The first time I ever went camping was not in a tent but in a wooden building with no electric or bathroom or anything. That was for my 4th grade class trip at school. I never camped again until I was a teen and camped with my friends and the guy I was seeing at the time. I was 15 then. I loved it. I have no camped since that summer though and it has been over 15 years now.

@moffittjc Neither of my kids enjoy the outdoors they are like their father that way. My parents never went camping we always stayed at hotels so I never got much chances to go camping.

@shaggin Wow, 15 years since you've last camped out! That's a long time! I pretty much grew up camping, as my family like to hunt, fish and camp, so we were always heading out someplace fun to camp out at on weekends. And I have a huge love of the outdoors, so I try to take my son camping nowadays as much as possible. My daughter, on the other hand, she doesn't want to have anything to do with camping! haha

@DianneN Thank you. I do not look forward to starting cyber school again nor being stuck indoors all the time. I really enjoyed our summer even though it has rained so much.

@shaggin No, it's not something that ever tempted me. I do not like the idea to sleep under a tent on the ground.

It took me quite a few hours for the anxiety to leave me. I have spent most the day reading.

Back to school shopping took many long days. I am so glad my daughter had everything she needs now to go back to school tomorrow. I really hate shopping!

If it had been just her brother and I camping with her I don't think she would have liked it but since she was with one of her best friends in the girls back yard she loved it! Everything is always more fun with friends.

@shaggin When our children were young ( now as adults they get their own site), we let our children each bring a friend to camp. Between the two of us we had 6 children and ended up with 12 children at Camp Insanity. It was fine when they were little, then they were teens and it was not so fun but we lived through it..

I never liked camping. They should be safe with a detective sitting there protecting them. Thank you and you gave me an idea for a post.

@FayeHazel She had a great time. She was very tired the next day after getting barely any sleep and her back was sore from sleeping with a rock under her part of the tent but we had to get some school shopping done. She told me tonight that the camping party was the funnest thing all summer.
