We are nearing the end of my series paying tribute to my favorite guitarist, Gary Moore. We are at #3: "Parisienne Walkways." From his 1978 album, Back on the Streets, "Parisienne Walkways" was yet another collaboration with Thin Lizzy leader Phil Lynott (in fact, in addition to Moore and Lynott, Brian Downing played drums, effectively reuniting a very popular Thin Lizzy lineup.) This was the first single in Gary Moore's solo career. Featuring Lynott on bass and vocals, "Parisienne Walkways" reached #8 in the UK, and #9 in France. Although it was largely ignored in the US, the song remains a Gary Moore favorite. In addition to the Lynott version, I have heard live takes with Greg Lake on vocals, as well as Moore himself. This is a rock guitar lovers dream. Listen, in fact, how Moore holds a single note so long that it might seem like it's the most important note in the history of music. And it's not a protest song! It was actually quite difficult to put it at three.

Well, they couldn't all be protest songs. Love Phil's vocal delivery, too.

He was the perfect vocalist for this. And I like Greg Lake's version.

He was only 58 when a heart attack got him. There were years of music left in him had he lived.
