A sad and busy day for The Horse

One of my favorite kid clients, a bright and angry homeless boy of 13, was denied readmission to his middle school because his mother, who has four children, forgot to turn in the necessary paperwork over the Summer. They (his family) are temporarily housed in a new school district. He has lost his school, his therapist, and the other services he was getting there.
I spent the afternoon on the phone, talking to his (former) therapist, his case manager, my boss, and a helpful women from the school district where he now resides. She gave me the number of someone I can call to set things up for this kid in his new school district. I'm going to pass it on to his mom and also be proactive and call them myself tomorrow.
Right now, I'm going to take the kid on an outing. You don't f*ck with The Horse when it comes to getting services for kids I care for. Pardon my language, but I want this kid to succeed.

Oh, how terrible for him! And I'm sure his mom is overwhelmed right now too, but still... that's a frustrating situation. I'm glad you're doing what you can for him.

That's the problem with not just the kids but so many others (like veterans): they're statistics to the paper pushers. Nothing more. I think we need to go back to the days of the religious communities doing what they were commanded instead of leaving it for the government, who reject people because a T wasn't crossed or an I wasn't dotted.

Trying to help others should never be this complicated @TheHorse but we find the same walls. One person messes up and everything falls apart, leaving those in need without what they should be getting.

@TheHorse Many parents need helpers, not just help. There are so few resources for them where we are.

@PatZAnthony Here, there are many resources. I finisheded my research this morning and contacted the mom. She's heading to the (new) school today.

Thank goodness for people like you. We as a Society need more people around like you. You could be this childs back bone and be one of the reasons he learns to become more than what Society is wanting to predict for him due to what his life was like growing up. I do wish you the Best with this child, and hoping Great things can happen.

Thanks! Sadly, even if there were more idealistic and well-trained adults out there, I don't think we could afford to pay for every kid to get the services this young man gets. My company bills Medical, which means it's "your" tax dollars paying for the services I provide for this young man.

I know you will do everything in your power for this boy. Your the only one it seems that the child can count on, I'm glad he has you.

What a shame the paperwork did not get done for him. He is very lucky to have you around to help get things straight.
