It Is People, People!

I know there is a lot going on, on Facebook as we have read in other discussions here on myLot, and nowadays people think a like button is all that counts, but as I also keep saying to my friends it is not the inanimate object, it is the person using it, that makes something good or evil, useful or useless, etc. I am so tired of hearing people that have not tried Facebook before, saying that it is bad or evil or dangerous, I have used it on and off for years and I decide who I let on to my friends list, I decide which pages to like. I choose what shows on my timeline.
When my Mom got so sick, her friends on Facebook sent prayers and encouragement to her daily, she has friends all over the world, she says it is like having pen pals of old, but only better because they don't have to wait forever to hear from each other. They send voice notes to each other and it thrills her to hear a friends voice. When she is having a particularly tough day and I see she goes on and I see a smile break out on her face because someone has left her a message or voice note, I smile too!
My Mom is attached to an oxygen machine, so she is home bound and I can tell you that if it wasn't for her pen pals, I don't know what I would do to take her focus off the fact that she is stuck indoors. She is struggling to breathe today, and did not need a neighbour to tell her that Facebook is evil!
So, really, I say again, it is not the "thing" we use that causes trouble, it is people, People! We control what we use, or we're supposed to, not the other way around. Do you agree? Have a terrific Thursday, all!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I couldn't have said it better. You nailed it.
I hope your mom is doing okay. You've got enough to worry about with your mom, you don't need other people's negativity in your life!
So you're on FB? We should connect!

@bluesa People don't have to be sick or on disability to heed your mom's great advice. Taking life one day at a time is good advice for everyone! We need to learn to appreciate each day God has given us on this earth!
I'm like you in that I'm not on Facebook that much, but we can definitely connect!

Totally agree. Almost anything can be used for good or for evil. I use Facebook to stay in contact with distant (physical) family. I keep my settings quite secure...but not locked tight. I only share things that I am comfortable sharing. PMs are used for things that shouldn't be displayed publicly.

Sorry that you mom is not doing well and I hope she gets better. I totally agree with you. Facebook is like any other tool. It can be used as we wish. When I see someone do something I don't like, I just remove them and erase what they have done and they won't show up again. We are in control.

@bluesa I would compare it to a garden. If one looks after it they envoy some nice vegetables. If they don't look after it, they may get a lot of weeds and it may get out of control and spoil the rewards or the little critters may damage the plants.

I avoid the negativity that can happen on Facebook and only associate with those who bring happiness into my life.

Of course I agree, it's how you use an instrument and not the instrument itself. You can use a knife to cut the bread to share with someone, but you can also use a knife to kill, the knife is not evil, it's the one who uses the knife that can be evil.

i have a FB account but i have less than 200 friends. it is our means of communication to our family, colleagues, classmates and friends. i don't think FB is evil;well, it depends on the person using it.

Everything has its own good and bad side, depends on how people use it I guess. I am neutral about this Facebook business. It is funny to get there by accident and suddenly see a quick message from one of my primary school friend, 'hey, remember that classmate of ours? He is coming to my town soon with his daughter for a special function!'

Yes, I agree with you. It is more to do with people than anything else. People with the temptation to be either good or bad...
