Ask permission first

Do you ask your teenager permission first before entering his/her bedroom?
Do you ask your teenager permission first before you open his/her drawers, closet, wardrobe or touches the stuff on the desk?
Although you may be your teenager's parent, it is wise to ask his/her permission first before taking any action, even though he/she isn't at home. I had realized that teens are different from the past. When I was a teen, my parents just took my stuff or opened up my drawer, read my diary as if it was alright. However now in this century, parents have to learn to respect teens too in order for them to respect us parents back.
Whenever I need to take something ( even a pen ) from my teenager, I had to ask her permission first. Otherwise, I will get scolded instead! Anyway, she doesn't touch my stuff either.
So, is it a norm practice for you to ask your teen permission first?

I have no children, my mother never asked permission to open my drawers or come into my room. How can parents check if their teens are hiding something if they ask permission? I think that this is not correct, teens must know that they have to obey to their parents and their parents have the right to check on them.

However my teen does not like it. So, I don't check or touch her stuff, not even drawer. My hubby told me to give her privacy

@peachpurple My kids' rooms have locks but I'm glad they never feel the need to lock their rooms as we have strong trust within our family that we always value and respect each other's privacy.

@sishy7 my teen locks her door when she is sleeping or taking shower. If she is studying or playing computer, she doesn't lock her door

Mine are grown now, but I always knocked before entering and I didn't snoop--but there were sure times I wanted to!

I don't understand why parents should ask permission to children. My parents never asked permission , and i don't even like parents asking permission to children as if they are outsiders.

Teens want privacy and to be treated as an adult with respect. So, that is why permission is required. She does the same for me too.

Not always. When he is inside his room, yes. Sometimes you have to know what's going on in your child's life especially now that Internet is a part of life. You have to control what your child is watching online especially if you have a daughter.

Me too, I think this has to do with the culture. I noticed Asians don't knock or ask permission, only Americans do.
