Hurricane Irma is Headed Our Way

It will be a few days before Irma arrives, but this hurricane is already gathering force. If it hits the East Coast anywhere, it will be devastating.
There is a CHANCE that it will turn North and head out to sea. But, I think it’s more of a HOPE than a chance. Only time will tell. As it gets closer, and they forecast land fall, everyone better evacuate.
If I lived right on the East Coast, I would be packing up valuables and food NOW so, I would head out of town long before it hit the coast. We are over 100 miles from the coast, but we often DO get tons of rain and wind and even tornados from the hurricanes that hit the east coast.
So, I have our Go-bags ready. I want to get some non-perishable food this week to add to what I already have. If we don't need it...if we're not going to be affected here, I will use it up later.
So many people think they can stay and ride it out, but that is a foolish thing to do.
Do you live on the East Coast of the U.S.?

We have a few days to see where Irma is headed. I hope I don't have to evacuate, but I would probably go WEST to the mountains.

@JudyEv I've never had to leave my home for any evacuation, but there is always a first time. I would probably go to my brother's house. He lives about 100 miles from me. But there are other friends who would welcome me if needed.

@IreneVincent Do you stay with friends? I'm just curious about where people go when they have to leave their homes. It must be expensive to stay in hotels or whatever.

I hope that we are far enough away from the coast that we won't be in any danger. The tricky thing about a hurricane is that you don't know which direction it will go once it reaches land fall. Several years ago, a hurricane brought tons of rain to a county WEST of us and washed houses away in the middle of the night. Several people drowned. It was horrific. We were not affected here except for some rain. So, that hurricane hit the coast EAST of us and then traveled around to the WEST of us. CRAZY! My brother lives WEST of me by 100 miles, but he lives near where that hurricane went.

@YrNemo All the different weather trackers have it possibly going in a dozen different paths, so it will all depend on where the wind blows it I guess. I check on it every few hours on the weather channel.

@IreneVincent Sounds scary, if one doesn't know exactly which direction the hurricane will actually hit!

If it hits here we are in trouble. I don't know what we would do or where we will go.

Jacksonville is certainly in ONE of the projected paths right now. Let's hope it turns North and goes out to sea. Evacuate if you have to. Pack some clothes and food and have it ready to leave.

seldom do I think that a go-bag. you remind me about it. I just believe that my house is much safer than outside. I have to think about the go-bags. For I live a high place, I don't worry a lot about tons of rains ruinning my house.

I have read and even posted on mylot some information about devastating FLOODS in China. I don't know where you live but its always best to be prepared, JUST IN CASE.
And, remember that floods are not the ONLY reason that can cause a person to have to evacuate the area he lives in.

@Behindtheguitarbar It's always best to pack a bag with a change of clothes, some food and water for at least three days, any medicine you may need and any valuables, money or important papers. My Go-bags have a lot more than that, but everyone needs to always have at least those items ready to go.
