Five down, five to go! As a companion list to my favorite Beatles songs I'm also counting down my favorite songs by the members of the Beatles during their solo careers. At least one from each Beatle remains in the top five. Here's the next song on the list. #5: It Don't Come Easy (Ringo) This was Ringo's first hit single after the breakup. Emphasis on "hit," too: it was a top five hit in many countries. According to Picky Wedia, George Harrison (who produced the session) co-wrote the song, even though only Ringo's name appeared as songwriter. That's magnanimous of "the Quiet Beatle" (or maybe he was afraid he'd get sued by the Chiffons on this one, too ). It's quite a contrast from the lighthearted things that Ringo did in the Beatles (or even later in his solo career): it takes a serious look at life (which doesn't come easy, as the title says) and love ("I don't ask for much, I only want your trust") and philosophy ("the future won't last, it will soon be yours tomorrow"). I'd say this is definitely one of Ringo's best songs of his solo career, and definitely his best "hit single." It Don't Come Easy Written by Richard Starkey and George Harrison (credited to just Ringo) Recorded by Ringo Starr Released as a single, 1971 Open up your heart, let's come together (right now, over me ):
