Diary Tuesday 5th September 2017 A long day today spent on a comprehensive course in equality rights awareness, how to avoid prejudice, and help challenge inequality and discrimination. My ongoing voluntary work for the university as an occasional speaker and support activist made attendance on such a course compulsory, a with all other staff and volunteers involved. We did some very interesting exercises. We were given a short list of 24 people with various positive and negative attributes; for example an engineer might have a history of child molestation, while the historian might b aged ninety. We had to short-list the team to just nine who would go to colonise a new World on a rocket when the Earth is destroyed by a meteor. We had to justify our reason why some people were included and for who was left out. Lunch was provided for us and though hard work it was a very enjoyable day. Diary Wednesday 6th September 2017 Another day on the university campus and I also finally found the nearby comic store open rather than closed. I got a few comics there and met the very friendly staff. The university activity was a short quarterly meeting with different social groups, including an AIDS awareness team who are helping to educate people away from prejudicial fear and discrimination against HIV sufferers, etc. A check on my bank account showed me that my payment for recent talks has gone into my account. I had to declare these earnings to the welfare people so I phoned them up. As a security question I was asked what my phone number is, the very number I phoned on. I read it out but got one digit wrong so hey told me I had failed the security screening and hung up on me. I had to ring up and start the whole call process again, fortunately with a different welfare officer who assured me that I had not done anything wrong at all with the previous call handler. It was just ridiculous and the calls cost me money at premium rates. Arthur Chappell

I agree that your exercises were very interesting and it's great they provided lunch. It's so annoying when they hand up on you just for a little mistake.

I just got my tote of old comic books out the other day. They are mostly from the 60's and 70's. It's been fun looking through them.

You'd think they would just ask another question before hanging up on you!

I spent all day Saturday hanging out and talking with a neighbor that has HIV, and his boyfriend. Nice guys, too bad we didn't meet them sooner. Both of us are moving out.
