Piano Lessons

I had my great grandson with me overnight last night and all day today. He is 14 years old. He is home-schooled, so he had lessons to do this morning and then this afternoon, he helped me with a couple things. For one thing, he cleaned my windshield with a “no-fog” cloth that I purchased a couple days ago. I hope he did it right because my windshield has been fogging up with this humid weather that we have been having. I will see tomorrow if he did a good job. He also filled up a couple bird feeders for me. And then, for about an hour, I gave him piano lessons. It was his FIRST lesson, so he had to first learn how to read music and he did fairly well. He learned to play the first few stanzas of a song, but he will need a lot more practice. I was pleased though, with what he did learn. And hopefully, he won’t forget what he learned today. He will be coming to my house on Tuesday nights and spending the night and all the next day with me. My daughter has another obligation now on Wednesdays, so we have worked out a schedule. But, then when my grandson got home from school, he spent some time with him until my daughter came to get him. She has legal custody of him. His parents are separated and neither one is in a position to take care of him. It’s a long story.

It's good you're able to help out with caring for your great grandson. And nice that you're able to give him some piano lessons.

He has a small keyboard at home so he said he would practice what he learned and then next week, I will show him more. Leaning to read music is the important thing now, so that is what we are concentrating on, but I am also encouraging him to play a song that he knows, so that he will be able to appreciate that that he is making progress. I have the music for him to follow. He has done well so far, so I hope that he will stick with it.

@IreneVincent It is hard to keep children motivated to practise but I hope your 'pupil' keeps with it. It is always more interesting for them once they learn to play a song or two.

Teenagers if they are keen to play a musical instrument, they tend to learn pretty fast.

I think he will learn fast. He seems to be interested enough.

I hope he will learn a lot about playing the piano. That will be fun for him.

He seemed to like learning, but his fingers got tired, he said. He is needing to learn how to properly hold his fingers. I showed him several times, but he wants to do it his way. Eventually, he will learn the proper way, I'm sure.

I am sorr y neither one is in a position to take care of him. If you want to tell us some time then please do, but, if you do not that is ok too. I am glad he has you.
