I don't know much about sunspots but there are several different "solar storms" that can affect Earth. CME (coronal mass ejection), filament rupture, M-class and X-class flares. X-class are rare and the strongest. Many of these can interfere with ham radio operators and have already been frustrating first responders of the hurricanes. They can mess up GPS readings, so watch it if you are out using GPS direction. Some scientists have also observed that solar activity correlates to an increase in frequency and/or magnitude of earthquakes around the globe (in other words, more and bigger.) Solar storms also create beautiful auroras, so aurora photographers love them.
What do you know about solar activity? What would affect you the most? Here is a video of a solar researcher, Tamitha Skov, talking about this week's X-class flares.
The Sun has surprised many by firing 3 X-class flares and sending two solar storms towards Earth at a time when most are expecting the Sun to quiet down on i...

I had no idea solar flares created so much mayhem. Thanks for the information.
