Australian Birds
I love to read anything about Australia, as I have mentioned before I’m sure. So, today I found some information that I had saved about Australian birds.
Let me tell you about each one of them.
Cassowary: I had no idea that the southern, or double-wattled, cassowary could weigh between 70 and 130 pounds. Now, that’s a BIG bird. It lives in the lush rain forests of northeastern Australia and New Guinea.
The adult stands around six feet tall, with the female being larger than the male. Not only is that unusual, but the female is also more colorful than the male, who stays completely out of her way, except during mating season.
The female lays the eggs but leaves them for the male to care for them. She then mates with other males and leaves each clutch of eggs for the males to take care of. So strange!
Deforestation is a problem for cassowary birds. And they are important to the environment, because they eat mainly fruit and the undigested seeds are dispersed throughout the forest. If the cassowary becomes extinct, the plants would also suffer extinction, the experts say.
The bird can be dangerous to humans if threatened or wounded, so don’t get too close. They make a deep guttural rumbling sound to warn you away.
Take the hint.
Stayed tuned for the next bird.

Australian birds are fascinating. You certainly don't see birds like that here.

It's really amazing when you think about the difference in a small hummingbird that weighs less than an ounce and a bird as big as a cassowary. What a wonderful variety of "flying creatures" and even those birds that DON"T fly, that we have on this Earth to enjoy. God created them for our pleasure.
Genesis 1:20 says: "Then God said: "Let the waters swarm with living creatures and let flying creatures fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens." And God created the great sea creatures and all living creatures that move and swarm in the waters and every winged flying creature according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. With that God blessed them, saying: "Be fruitful and become many and fill the waters of the sea and let the flying creatures become many in the Earth."
