Back to the Vein Specialist Tomorrow

United States

Tomorrow marks two weeks since I had the venous ablation done on my right leg, which means my restrictions should be lifted after tomorrow (at least for that leg). Although I will be getting some sclerotherapy injections to close some veins in my right leg, so maybe that will come with its own set of restrictions and aftercare for me to follow. I was never really consulted on that procedure and was surprised when I was told I had to come back to have it done. Although I was told it's not as bad as the venous ablation, and won't require me having my leg wrapped afterwards. I foolishly googled what the procedure entails and now I wish I hadn't. Sometimes ignorance truly is bliss. I know there's a lot of misinformation online and that the people writing articles for medical sites aren't necessarily experts or even have any prior knowledge on the topics they're writing about, so I'm trying not to get too worried. Mostly what causes me to panic about things is the possible side effects. What some of those articles don't mention is that the worst possible scenarios are extremely rare and often occur under special circumstances. Anyway, I will let you all know how it went once I'm back from my appointment. It's not until the afternoon so at least I won't have to get up early for it. Now to get through the next week so my restrictions will be lifted completely, as it's only been a week since I had the ablation done on my left leg. Getting rid of varicose veins sure is a pain!

I really hope so. I was looking forward to not wearing these compression stockings for very much longer and only having one more week of getting up and walking every half hour, but it looks like I'll be doing that for a while yet.

Best of luck to you. I hate going to the doctor and having tests. The older I get, the more it's necessary.

Thank you. I am not a fan of doctors either. I have spent the majority of my time over the last year going to various doctors, but I'm hoping I won't have to go so often anymore since my issues are finally being taken care of.

Do not read online medical articles. There is a lot of misinformation and many write without having a real knowledge of the topic. Try not to stress, everything will be fine.

@Srbageldog My brother is an angiologist (vein doctor), when my Mom needed vein surgery he told me that they do not inject chemicals and my mom only had to wear compression stocking for a few days.

@LadyDuck I wonder where the writers of those medical articles got their information, since it is either outdated or very inaccurate.

@Srbageldog I suppose they copy from very old articles. They should be banned from the Internet.

Does all those procedures to remove varicose veins actually work? I mean, does it permanently solve the problem?

Ahh, that I do not know. I am guessing it's not a permanent solution since venous reflux disease is usually a chronic condition. But it can prevent those veins from getting really bad and having complications down the line (my mom gets ulcers from them, and I don't want to wind up like her because I've seen how much she suffers. I keep telling her to go to this specialist and have those veins closed down.) Sometimes the veins they shut down wind up opening again. There was an older lady wearing compression stockings in the specialist's office who saw my legs all wrapped up and exclaimed "Ahh, I remember that well!" And I thought...and yet, here you are, still requiring the care of a vein specialist and having to wear compression stockings. I hope these procedures actually work and I won't have to go through them again. None of the procedures I had done took care of any cosmetic issues, but I guess that's not a huge deal since I rarely wear shorts anyway. I just want my legs to stop hurting and swelling all the time.

@moffittjc Thank you! I have a huge fear of blood clots so everytime my leg hurts and swells, I worry. I'm hoping this will take some of that worry away.
