Are our dogs extra-ordinary?

This afternoon, our skies are gloomy, it is drizzling, and having roars of thunder, but our dogs are just lying on the floor- outside in the veranda, under the car, and inside here in our living room. They seem to not care about the impending strong rains. I learned that some dogs are afraid of thunder. Our dogs however, do not mind at all. I should think they are extra-ordinary, but I think there are some types of dogs who are not scared of loud sounds. How do you deal with ‘scared-of-thunder’ pet dogs?

Every summer Daisy hides under the bed from the storms and I pat her to calm her. I am happy your dogs do not scare and they are so cute, my friend!

@ridingbet That is quite true. all of mine are above 70 pounds. I wouldn't mind having an extra large some day. :) I did have one dog, my last one that passed away... Tennyson.. he was afraid of thunderstorms and would follow me around the house when they were going on. they made him very nervous. the dogs I have now don't really care.

@minx267 they are big dogs so they are not scared of thunder and other loud noises. and our dogs are medium or small and they don't care too. so did you have that jacket for Tennyson?

I would just have them lie down by me and I would pet them off and on to let them know that they were ok.

@ridingbet I think it helps to let a pet know that you are close for them if they are scared.

Really, they aren't afraid of the thunder! Our dogs are all so afraid of the sound fireworks specially on the eve of new year and Christmas. They would really hide in the corner of the garage and be under the car until those fireworks ceased from making sounds.

@ridingbet I think most dogs don't like those. They have a strong sense of hearing that's why. Any loud noise would already be deafening to them.

Some dogs are scared and some do not mind, it's the same with the cats. Yesterday we had a thunderstorm and Willy the cat was quietly sleeping under our porch, he only opened one eye to be sure the rain could not reach him.

@ridingbet He was funny, he did not even move, just opened an eye and then back to sleep.

@LadyDuck oh, i just love the posts on FB about the mischievous cats and dogs like their unusual positions in sleeping, how cats react to certain situations and showing their weird faces. i giggle while enjoying them.

@ridingbet I don't remember if my dog I had was afraid of thunder and rain or not. The cat I had before Sophie hated rain. Sophie doesn't mind it. She would love to sit out on our porch with the rain coming down on her but I will not let that happen.

@ridingbet I don't remember. Why is it so important if I tagged you or not? I could have done it by accident if i did do it.

Rumbling sounds of thunder are not too bad like lightning (to dogs) I guess. If the sound is of a high frequency, bet you your dogs would not be happy one bit.

they bark loud when they hear a distinct sound like the horn of a car, but they don't get scared.
