Sniffling on the train

Japan
September 17, 2017 5:59am CST
Today, I was unfortunate enough to sit next to a young man on the train who was sniffling, often and loudly. Once there was another seat available I moved. Then I transferred to a very crowded train and ended up next to another young man who was sniffling. On my way home, you guessed it, a third sniffler (an older man this time.) Why were they not wearing masks? It's rude in Japan to blow your nose loudly in public but most people wear a mask so they don't contaminate others with their cold. I hope they all had allergies and not colds. What would you have done if you were me?

School just started up here and I am hearing that many children are now coming down with colds. My granddaughter is battling allergies. Allergies have been bad this year.

Sometimes it is hard to avoid the sniffling. I take it easy. As long as the person tries to cover his/her mouth when he/she is sniffling, that's OK for me. I don't really mind it so much.

I would have moved all the time, I have a great fear of germs.

I would have moved as soon as there was another space available. I hope they only had allergies.

They should cover their noses. You should also cover your nose/mouth to avoid inhaling the virus!
