Dark Horse Comics – 2013 – Spoiler alerts Another classic rule breaking Goon comic. This one sees The Goon smuggling moonshine liquor into Mexico hidden in old clocks, only to find his customers under attack by a demon, the El Bruto of the title. The Goon proceeds to beat the Hell out of the creature. When the Goon or other American characters talk, the text is in English, but the Mexican and demon dialogue is given in untranslated Spanish-Mexican. It is obvious from the context what is going on though and the Bruto’s ravings are clearly non-complementary bad language. The joke is a little over-stretched but there are some great asides, such as a comic strip Tom Waites cutting in randomly to say that listening to his music would be a better way to pass the time. There is also an extremely rude poster-page for a pretend movie sequel to Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter featuring Richard Nixon doing something extremely vulgar to the Frankenstein Monster – the title would get me kicked off Mylot. I am not a lot into Comics, my husband is. It's interesting to keep the mix of languages and it makes sense. Like the Mafia movies have a mix of American slang and Sicilian.
