I Want to Work for Blizzard Entertainment!

The Irvine, California headquarters for the gaming company, Blizzard, is near my home and almost across the street from my healthcare provider. There is a lovely, tree covered walking path nearby, which is where my friends and I sometimes choose to stroll.
For those of you who don't know much about Blizzard, they are the creators of the Warcraft, Diablo and StarCraft video game series.
On a recent Friday afternoon, my husband and I were driving past the Blizzard headquarters around 4:00 and noticed that work seemed to be over for the day. Everyone was either leaving or playing basketball on their employee courts.
This past Friday, my friends and I were walking along the path behind Blizzard around noon, and they were having a catered lunch, with umbrella shaded picnic tables and a chef preparing something in a wok. A couple of employees rode off along the path on their bicycles ... presumably heading home at the end of their work week.
When I met an employee of Blizzard a few months ago and asked what he did for the company, he replied that he worked in the product evaluation department ... which translated to his job being to play video games all day and make sure they worked they way they are supposed to.
So, I got to thinking ... ride a bike to work, take off early on Fridays after a catered picnic lunch, and play video games all day for a job. I wonder if I'm too old to apply for a job there!

Many years ago, when my husband was (among other things) Apple certified developer, we received dozens of programs and games to test from independent software companies. He tested the serious program, I tested the games. You cannot even imagine how boring and stressful this work can be after a few months. You play, you find a glitch, you stop if take note of what happened at which phase of the game, using which kind of hardware, which brand of mouse and so on... it's not a piece of cake.

@DeborahDiane When you work many hours staring at a game, you need to stop and relax. Relax your muscle and move. I know that I used to get up and go out for a walk on the beach every three hours to relax my brain, my hands and my eyes.

@LadyDuck - That may be why Blizzard has outside picnic tables along the park's walking and biking path, as well as a basketball court. Their employees probably need the breaks!

@LadyDuck - Oh, dear! Maybe the job isn't as ideal as it looks from the outside. Perhaps that is why they take such good care of their employees with catered lunches, basketball courts and things like that!

@just4him - Now I know why all the young people want to work for a gaming company like Blizzard. They really take care of their employees!

@DeborahDiane It's good when a company does that. It makes for loyal employees.

@just4him - I agree! Those people will probably still be working for Blizzard when they are middle aged and older. They may never want to leave!

Sounds like a good deal. I'd apply there given a chance.
If you decide to go for it, good luck to you.

lol It sounds like the sort of employer that everyone wants but I suspect that the rest of the time might just be stressful, creating games.

@BelleStarr - I'm sure you are right. The job looks fun from the outside, but I am sure it is much more stressful when they are inside those buildings!

@YrNemo - Wouldn't that be a fun job? I'm sure there is work involved, but the benefits are nice!

@YrNemo - Ha ha! I would have to move close enough that I could ride a bike to work, like the young people do!

I imagine it is not as easy as it looks or sounds. That is also what my brother does for a living, but he streams video games recommends what to play how how to play more complicated games.

@CookieMonster46 - Yes, I'm actually retired now, but I agree it seems like the kind of place where I would have liked to have worked.

@DianneN - Me, too! Don't tell Blizzard, but I have never played a video game for longer than a couple of minutes.
Half the time, I don't know what my grandkids are talking about when they discuss games! LOL I guess my chances of getting a job there is unlikely (and I'm happily retired), but walking past their catered luncheon by the park made it seem like a very nice place to work!
