This is one of those music series' of mine that does not focus on specific songs or bands. Instead, this particular countdown touches upon my Favorite Soundtrack Albums. We are at #9: Romeo + Juliet.
There were two soundtrack albums released from 1996's Romeo + Juliet, one featuring pop and rock music used in the movie, the second consisting of the film's score and dialog from the movie. It's the pop soundtrack that we are talking about here, however.
And what a lineup: this one features acts such as Garbage (their contribution, "#1 Crush," was released as a single from the album, spending four weeks atop Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart,) Radiohead, Butthole Surfers, The Cardigans (whose contribution, "Lovefool," was an international smash,) Gavin Friday, and Everclear.
The album did quite well, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200, where it was certified triple platinum (and 5x platinum in Australia.) All told, the soundtrack appeared on the charts in 11 countries, reaching the Top 10 in eight of those.
Quite a successful movie soundtrack to say the least.

Hey, this music was not around in those times. This is fake news. J/K
I always like Garbage. Need more female rockers, most singer seem to go to pop.

@teamfreak16 '#1 Crush' and 'Lovefool' were the songs that carried that OST to fame.

@allen0187 - Most definitely. Especially "Lovefool," which was huge on an international level.

I have actually not seen the movie. Been listening to the soundtrack for a long time, though.

There are a lot of soundtracks I've had without seeing the movie (I'd mention one here that featured Joe Strummer music, but it may show up on your list). Sometimes music's the best thing about a movie.

I have heard that song but I have never seen that movie version of Romeo & Juliet. My favorite version of that movie was the 1968 version that starred Olivia Hussey & Leonard Whiting. The music in that always affects me and makes me want to cry.

@teamfreak16 Of course it is sad, but it is a very well done production.
