Why the old songs are better than the current ones?

In a discussion about a movie with my friend @JustBhem, we came up with the subject Music and I thought I'd ask you this...
I know this may not be a consensus, but it sure must be the opinion of most people who really like and care about the songs they listen to.
The songs of the past decades are better than the current ones... But why after so many advances the music couldn't evolve (positively speaking)?

I think the type of musical genre your talking about is a factor. Music from each era is copied by musicians and these artists are influenced by the past. It is the sincerest form of flattery so to speak. So perhaps that is why past decades are viewed as better by some. It is hard to reinvent the wheel. But there are always artists who are experimenting and trying new things. So, I don't believe this opinion is 100%. There are always exceptions. Just one man's opinion.

@JustBhem I'm stuck in the solid gold oldies of the 60's and classic rock of the 60's and 70's. I guess I prefer the older music to what's being played today (for the most part).

Same here, I seldom check new music and I still can't remember them right away, unlike the old songs.

I feel that the ones that are getting on in age or no longer with us knew how to make a song the way it should be. Now a days I have some weird names for bands or the music is not good. I feel that the old timers had it together and I love the old time songs.
