Walking is Good Solution to Traffic and Pollution

Thanks to a post by a myLotter about a "Carless Day" in their place; it reminded me of the traffic problems suffered daily by commuters especially along E. de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Metro Manila. What was on my mind when authorities were talking was why not encourage people going in nearby places to just walk.It is good for the body and eases air pollution as well because there will be lesser cars on the road, so less carbon emissions. Another is providing bike lanes so those who like to use it can ride safely to work or to other destinations. There should also be good walkways to encourage people to walk, especially young people. There are little ways of solving big problems instead of doing nothing to solve it.What do you think?

Bike-riders in France are very well looked after as regards having their own lanes on many roads.

We envy the bikers in France and in other countries who could enjoy the bike rides safely.

@acelawrites They certainly look after those that ride bikes. It is a very popular sport.

I hate traffic jam so whatever possible solution there might be, I would support.

And am annoyed hearing them talking and talking (politicians) but no one ever mentioned about bike lanes or walkways! They're just grandstanding!

Walking is good in so many ways. Gives you time to think etc. But also having bike lanes installed makes it easier for both without the walkers being in the way.

Walkways and bike lanes should be separate to avoid accidents.

It sounds reasonable to me, and I've seen it in large cities in the USA. I live far out in the suburbs and hills. The only transportation is by car.

Walking is applicable to short distances only like two or up to five kilometers. It was really a mess when you are riding a car or a bus and there's heavy volume of traffic; moving at snail's pace!
