THE MUSIC LOVING THIEF

After reading the post by @marguicha about a second break-in at her home, I recalled the first time that happened to me and my family. I was about fifteen at the time and my mother , my siblings and I returned home from church one Sunday to find that a thief or thieves had broken into our home and left with our entire, extensive collection of 45s(records) The thief or thieves also went with the Sunday dinner mom had prepared before leaving for church. The food wasn't a problem , but we were very upset about losing those records which could not be replaced. At the time, I couldn't shake the feeling that the thief was someone we knew - and he came specifically for those records, nothing else was taken - except our dinner, which was most likely a spur of the moment action. Has anyone ever broken into your house and stolen items which you didn't think they would steal? Or, have you ever been a victim of robbery of any kind?

It sounds as if it was someone you knew and wanted just that.

Yes, and the perp that came to the house I was living in at the time had been inside before too. It was while I was living in NH back in 1980. Four of us were living together for one year and working part-time while talking to the people in town about God and Jesus Christ. We were running Bible fellowships in that home too. Someone that we'd invited notice the horn of plenty that had been passed around the room and that is what they came to steal. Our front door had the type of lock with a chain on it and the person broke that off to gain entry. It happened in the middle of the night while we were trying to sleep. A girl from Ohio and I slept in a back bedroom while the two guys slept in a room off the living room. The guy broke in and came back to our room and flicked on the light. It was a bit scary at first. I honestly don't remember what happened after that, whether we chased him out of the house or what. We discovered the next day that the money collected was missing.

@Kandae11 I'm sure he wasn't in his right mind whatever the cause was. In fact, if I remember correctly he may have been just as surprised as we were when he flicked on the light, like it got him back to his right mind.

He was a very bold thief - to come into your room and flick on the light. Maybe he was high on something. What an awful thing to do - you're invited to someone's home to listen to the message, then you sneak back late at night to steal the offering.

The suspect either has a turntable or record player or else that is the next item he needs to steal, of course he is eating dinner while contemplating his next move lol!

Fortunately not but it did happen to my parents when I was in boarding school. It was a traumatic experience for them because it happened when they were at home.

I would prefer not to be at home - unless I had something to defend myself and scare them off with.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It must be an awful and frustrating feeling. We have been very fortunate so far that that hasn't happened.

That is sad your family had to go through that. It does seem like someone who knew you had all those records.

That had to be the case - because nothing else was taken - apart from our dinner.

That is awful that they would take something that meant so much to your family. As you know, I recently suffered a significant loss but you reminded me of the one other time I've been burglarized. About 40 years ago I was living in a really bad part of town where the rent was affordable but you had to watch your back. I came home from work one day to find that someone had pried open my door and made off with the crossbow that I had built. I was very proud of that weapon and had just started to get good with it. It was the only thing of value that I had at the time. I was so angry! I never found out who took it and never saw it again.

The thief probably didn't even need it for anything, but after going to all that trouble to get in, he decided that he must take something. He must have sold it for a very good price.

I had 2 break-ins. One when I was young. The other was a strange one. I came home and did not notice anything except a couple of drawers open. I thought my step-daughter who had a key had probably visited and borrowed some of her mother clothes which was nothing strange and had been in a hurry. However when I came to know that she had not visited, I checked the back door and the lock had been broken. We had a dog and it was ok. I checked to see what was missing and as far as I know nothing was missing and so it remains a mystery as to why nothing had been stolen. Now there's a mystery!

@Kandae11 I am one who gives thanks every day and each day is precious and I appreciate life. Did you do anything special?

That is a mystery indeed - maybe the thief was looking for something specific and couldn't be bothered to take anything else. Did you have a good thanksgiving day?

yes during early year when i was jobless i had saved few cash to support myself. That was only money i had and one day when i went to grope it out from my bag, to my shock it was missing and after searching every pockets of my trousers desperately i came to the term that it was stolen. The suspect was one student who was son of my landlord and visited me for the tuition but i had no proof so could not recover the money but as consequent to that i had to accept the job which i did not wanted to.

It is very frustrating when you have an idea who the thief is - but no proof. That must have been an awful time for you. I don't recall ever having money stolen from me but I often have dreams about it happening - and boy! am I glad when I wake up and discover it was just a dream.

No thefts here, thankfully. One time my dad discovered a tire air pressure gauge missing from his car. That's really sad about the dinner and records. Pathetic people....
