I planned on making sloppy joe's for supper tonight. We enjoy the brand called 'not so sloppy joes'. I think it tastes just like what my mother used to make from scratch. I like it much better than the manwich which seems more popular with most people. When I got out of work at 7:30 this morning, I did a bit of grocery shopping so I wouldn't have to go back later in the day. I wanted something different to eat with my sloppy joes and bought a package of pita bread. Not the best idea. It kept breaking while I was trying to take my bites and I had to watch so it didn't fall out everywhere. I used pita bread years ago when I ate it with sprouts and lunch meats. I'm not sure whether I'll eat it now or pawn it off on someone else like my husband. I was hoping to stay away from using bread since I'm somewhat addicted to it.

I love homemade bread too and we sell something made the next city over called spatz bread. Tastes just like homemade. Problem is that I eat the whole loaf of either within a few days time, so therefore, I try not to have bread around much for me to eat anyway.

Maybe it was the brand of pita bread you bought. I'm sorry it kept falling apart while you were eating.

Maybe, but I'm thinking it would do the same with any brand. Like, April, says it works better for normal sandwiches and that's how I've used them in the past.

@MarshaMusselman Okay. Just a thought. I've tried store brands on things and it just wasn't as good as name brands.

@just4him The taste was fine. It may be that the hamburger wasn't small enough to stop from piercing through the bread.

I have noticed that where I live, bread is sweeter than before. That means, of course, that they are adding more sufar. I don´t like it. But besides the taste, it is not as healthy as the old bread.

WE now have bread that no longer has high fructose corn sugar, so that helps, but even then something in the bread makes it addictive. Maybe it's other types of sugars, I'm not sure. It could also be the gluten that causes it.

I love sloppy joes and usually use the traditional Manwich. Lately I've given up trying to eat them on bread/rolls and have my sloppy joe in a bowl and use Toastito scoops in place of bread.

Now using tostitos or any other type of taco chip would be a decent way to eat it too, I suppose.

I think sloppy joes work best with buns--and I know what you mean about the Pita bread- I think perhaps Pita works best with cold fillings. Or maybe you needed a different type of Pita Bread?? Oh well at least the Sloppy JOe part was good!

It probably does work best with buns, but I don't buy buns too often as they don't all get eaten and then we're wasteful. I make most of my family use bread for both hot dogs and hamburgers too.

You break up hamburger and fry it or cook it until it's no longer red. Then you add a tomato mixture. Here we have it already made up for us, but my mom used to make it from scratch using tomatoes, or canned tomatoes she personally canned, green peppers and onion. I'm not sure what her recipe was. I think I took a picture of the product we like that I'm looking for. It's sort of like pulled pork, or barbecued pork although you use hamburger instead of pork or chicken.

@responsiveme I would have to ask my sister for the recipe as she took my mom's cookbook with her.

Personally, I find that it often depends on what brand of Pita bread you use as to if it really is any good. Still having Fresh pita just made from somewhere will always be the Best.

@MarshaMusselman That probably would be good for Tuna.

The bread itself tasted fine. I will use it for tuna sandwiches in the near future that will probably work better with that type of bread.

I have never heard of that brand of sloppy joe mix. I normally make it from scratch. I have a simple recipe I found on Pinterest. I don't think my version tastes as tangy as Manwich but it is very good to us. We have no problems eating it. I have never tried eating sloppy joes with pita bread. If we are out of bread, I like to use burrito wraps. Did you make the banner above? I like it. Surveys can be such a pain.

Surveys never worked for me until I started doing one my husband started some years back but never reaped his benefits. He started getting several amazon gift cards so I checked it out. I wrote about it, but it was deleted. I meant to edit it but forgot since I was working midnights that week

I'm sure that's true as that's what I've used them for before this. Wow, not that it matters, but you have exactly 100 more posts of one kind or another than I do. Isn't that odd or cool or something?

@thislittlepennyearns Well, that didn't last very long. Now you're about three hundred more than me, but that's okay too.
