I Hate Always Feeling Nervous

I have been working for almost half a month now and I am still nervous right before I head to work. I don't know why, though I am sure it has to do with the fear of messing up and getting fired which I really can't have happen right now. The stresses that I am under now definitely make it worse.
Usually though on my full days I am fine after lunch and am not really nervous much anymore. Today is only a 5 hour shift and I will be going in after lunch so I hope by then I am feeling more calm. I just want to not be nervous or scared and feel like I have been at this for years now. Although I guess since I just started and haven't assisted with EVERYTHING yet I will eventually get there and this is normal for me for now. I need to work on calming techniques.
Have you ever been nervous for a while when starting a new job? When did it finally stop happening for you? Any calming techniques you all wanna share?

It has been so long since I started a new job but it is normal to feel the way that you are. You are still fairly new there so it will take time to feel confident and relaxed in your position.

Whenever I get anxious I breath deeply through my nose and hold it for 4 seconds then release it slowly through my mouth. It helps too by envisioning something that you really enjoy. For me it is the ocean. I love to sit for hours with my feet in the sand and watch the waves go in and out.
I have always feared being let go from any job that I have held. In our state an employer can let you go without having any valid reason. How is that for job security? Not fun knowing that you can be unemployed at the drop of a hand.

I used to feel that way when I first started working. I only got better when I started to make a few friends at work. I think it's important to know the cause of your stress if you want to overcome it. Consult a colleague, perhaps? But then again since you just started it can be just a temporary stage.

It is normal to be nervous at first. I used to teach at the university and each new year was like the first.
