I am on my fifth year in college studying to be an Early Childhood teacher. It is so much work for a job that is so underpaid. Not to mention people are "supposed" to graduate in four years. I am dying to get out of college and graduate with my diploma. But then I know work is just going to have it's own stresses because there frustrations everywhere... Are any of you guys in college studying?

No, I am considering and contemplating retirement. I loved early childhood jobs. Yes, I know they are underpaid. My favorite coworkers were very passionate about it, though. I was a paraprofessional and our preschool was Head Start plus special needs children. There are lots of people who do not finish school in four years.

Yeah I am aware of that. Theres plenty of reasons why it's oka to take your time. Plus, you wanna do well and not overwhelmed yourself. And I think anyone study to hr a teacher must be passionate about it, because it's a lot of work. And hey, I love it. I did a lot of field experience and was a substitute teacher at the public schools. =)

@GardenGerty I would go work in a pre-kinder or a kindergarten classrooms. I wouldn't mind nurseries or day care either. I just want to stay with the little ones.

Yeah, I get you. I'm in my first semester in my first year. I'm also studying education, maybe special education or speech. I think there is a lot of work, and I totally get that there is more school than I anticipated. It seems like it's endless but I'm just taking it one step at a time. I already completed my portfolio with 10 hours of observation and like a ton of reflections. That was so much, I've never typed so many words in my life! And that says a lot given how much I write (like on myLot)

I am new to myLot so I will be writing a lot soon enough. Plus, I'm a writer outside the site too. And then there's school. So my hands must be broken. Ha ha! but hey, what gets me going is the fact that we will be set for life. We got our degree and when we go to school, we will always be needed everywhere. Plus, children need our help for a bright future. =)

@craftsmart Thank you do much for the warm welcome! I have followed you and hope to get your follow back. And yes, old school emojis are way cooler than dumb ole regular emojis. I don't even use it when I text. Things like smiley faces or XD is just way better. Hee hee! =P I'm glad to talk to one of the few people that still appreciate or use them since it makes conversations more live-like.

I'm well past my college years, but don't feel bad for not graduating in four years. I don't know anyone who actually does it in the four-year period. I took 7 years to graduate but it was because I pursued two degrees, but even if I had only chosen one degree it still would have taken me five years! College can be frustrating, but it is also one of the most wonderful times of your life. Remember, college is not only preparing you for the real world, but for adult life itself. So the good and bad you experience in college will help serve you well in your post-college years.

@runningthegalaxies Don't quit! Many students don't realize it, but half of the purpose of college is to just see if you can stick it out. Once you get that degree, companies become interested in you not just for the education you have, but because they know you've got what it takes to stick it out in a tough environment!

Wow, thank you so much for your words. They really do help a lot. I definitely agree that college helps you in multiple ways than one. We just need to get past the anger and thought that we wanna quit.

@moffittjc I never thought of it that way, but I know they also look at the grades and what type of degree you have and I hate how some places want Masters and others are okay with Bachelor's and I'm.working on my fifth year on the bachelor's. It's a lot of work. But I can't give up because then I won't be able to make good enough money to survive life because that's really the only reason people go to college. College would be gone if we didn't need it. Ha ha!

I went to college for years and years, but stopped just short of getting a doctorate. I'm retired from teaching first grade, special education grades k-6, and a few college classes. I'm on Happy Street now. Best of luck to you.

Oh, wow, how wonderful for you to be a teacher in all those grades and areas. At the moment I am enjoying the career with the field experience I have been getting and when I was a substitute teacher. Thank you for the luck. I need it with all the work I have to do.

Yeah, I'd say maybe in two years and then I'd be officially done with everything. I can't wait for that day. Schools tedious but worth it in the end.

Not me but my sons were (are) and they all had (have) their own ways around college. One took his sweet time, another changed majors along the way, another one graduated on time, and one is very dedicated to his studies he may even graduate early...

Wow, that's wonderful. What matters is that we go along through it. Taking out time isn't so bad. We will eventually have our degrees and graduate. =)
